Michael's Mission for Heart & Lungs

Donation protected
In March 2016, Michael Parker was diagnosed with a lung disease called Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension at the age of 26. It’s a chronic and progressive rare disease that affects the heart’s ability to pump oxygenated blood into the lungs. People diagnosed with PAH have the life expectancy of 2-5 years without a transplant — he’s at year 2. Because his heart is working overtime, it has caused stage 4 heart failure and he is unable to work.

Michael’s heart has gotten significantly worse since November and has reached a point where the medication that is pumped into his heart every 60 seconds is no longer helping.  He was admitted to KU last weekend to be put on a more aggressive medicine that will make him very sick.

He has an appointment at Barnes in St. Louis in June where they will most likely be denied for a lung transplant. At that point, he will then be going to University of Texas Southwestern to hopefully get put on the transplant list for either a double lung transplant or a double lung AND heart transplant. Both are incredibly scary, but the transplant is the only cure. It’s very likely Michael will have to have a co-payment of up to $8,000 before they will even put him on the transplant list.

Once he gets put on the transplant list, the wait is approximately 3 months. Recovery after the transplant is 6-8 months. Because the surgery will be taking place in Texas, they will have to move and Miranda won’t be able to work because she will be caring for him.

Michael is a life long resident of Clinton. He married his wife, Miranda, on May 6, 2017. Despite all the hurdles, Michael continues to have a positive attitude. Miranda is a bright light through it all and taking excellent care of him.

The costs of medical care are overwhelming and we are reaching out to you for support. Please help Michael any way you can. Any donation, large or small, is very much appreciated.

All funds donated to Michael will be deposited into an account at Oak Star Bank in Clinton, Missouri for Michael’s use and benefit.

Direct donations can be made to Michael's Mission and taken or mailed to Oak Star Bank at 1313 N 2nd Street, PO Box 447, Clinton, MO, 64735.

I will continue to post updates of Michael's progress along the way.
