April of 2018 I went in for my first colonoscopy. The result was this needs to be removed now. I was diagnosed with stage 3 rectal cancer. 24 inches of Intestine removed and 12 inch tumor that had perforated the intestine was removed. (almost).Two months after the surgery I was off of work while I healed and then had the illiostomy removed (another surgery)before Radiation and pill chemotheapy. During that 2 months I was on short term disability but was able to use 120 hours of my personal time to make up the lost wages. I began radiation and pill chemotherapy in June and up until now used my personal time for all time out for radiation treatments and side effect days.
Back story .. I have had surgery for three port placements (total of eight days missed of work) as the first two did not work, both placed by my initial surgeon subclavian. The one I have now from Interventinal radiation (juglar placement) works. All this time I used my personal time. Now I will be recieving ported Chemotherapy untin June 2019. I am out of personal hours.
We have a benevolent sharing of leave plan at work but I was denied as I must be completly out of work (I am using intermittent FMLA) to even be considered for help. I do not want to not work, it keeps me sane. All this, and it does not guarantee they will pay me for 8 months out of work. I can still work and with chemo days, side effect days, port removal days, follow up cat scans, and doctor follow ups. I expect to at least lose one week of work per month. This is a loss to our family of about 7,000 dollars.
I initially began with wanting help to make up payroll so I can continue to work and fully support my wife and daughter. I am blessed with insurance but I am liable for 10,000 per year. The hospital graciously has me on a payment plan but next year I am in new for another 10G. So, I am also asking for aid with medical bills as well.
The first donations will go towards recouping of lost wages so I can continue to be productive. After that, all will go towards medical bills.
