Penny's Surgery Fund

Donation protected
Back in June, I decided I was going to adopt a dog since I was moving into a house with a backyard in August.  Over the summer, a women was charged with animal neglect and abuse in Hanover, Virginia.  All of her dogs, totaling 68 labradors and Saint Bernards, were taken from her home and put up for adoption at the Hanover County Animal Shelter.  My dad woke up at 4:00am to get to the shelter.  He was the eleventh person in line, and by 10:00am there were over 200 people waiting.  We went into the shelter and I picked out Penny right away.  She was the runt of the litter, sassy, and energetic.  She made sure everyone saw and heard her, and she still lives up to that today.

Being a dog from a puppy mill, a dog that was covered in her own feces and fleas, and a dog that was malnourished from birth, it should be no surprise that she has medical issues.  It started when we noticed she runs a little funny.  Her back legs are really stiff, and it looks like she doesn't know how to use them just yet.  Then she began limping and couldn't put any weight on her right leg.  That's when we knew it was something serious.

We rushed her to the vet and they took x-Rays.  We found out that part of her hip bone had never fully developed causing her femur to be unable to move properly.  Currently, she's over compensating on her left leg which could pose another problem.  She's in a lot of pain that my poor girl is too good at hiding.  We have her on pain medication, but she will need surgery.  Because of her age, this is something we can't put off and it's something we can't avoid.  It will only get worse.  Penny isn't a year old yet, and she can't live up to her potential as a loveable, playful, energetic puppy.  She is the sweetest girl, hugs and kisses everyone she meets, and deserves a chance at a normal puppy life more I can explain.  My family and I would be eternally grateful for your contribution, and Penny would be too.
