Mexico Earthquake Relief
Como saben muchos que me conocen, Juchitan, Oaxaca, Mexico, ha sido una parte importante de mi vida desde hace 37 años cuando fui allá como estudiante de intercambio con el programa AFS. El jueves pasado Mexico surfió un terremoto de la magnitud 8,1 y los estados de Chiapas y Oaxaca recibieron la fuerza directa de este temblor. En mi querido pueblo de Juchitán la destrucción fue horrible. El número total de heridos y muertos no se sabe todavía pero está aumentando cada día. Necesitamos hacer llegar vívereres a esta región. La necesidad ni se puede cuantificar todavía pero con la falta de agua, comida y productos básicos, la situación se está poniendo grave. Necesitan ayuda de inmediato. Hemos hecho contacto y arreglo con una compañía de dispensas de emergencia en México y van a hacer llegar los paquetes de emergencia a Juchitán en los próximos dias. Por favor, den lo que puedan para hacer llegar cosas básicas a este area afectado por el terremoto. Muchas gracias….Viva Juchitán y Viva México!
As many of you who know me are aware, Juchitan, Oaxaca, Mexico, has been an important part of my life for 37 years since I went there as an AFS exchange student. Last Thursday Mexico suffered an earthquake of the magnitude 8.1 and the states of Chiapas and Oaxaca received the brunt of the direct force. In my beloved Juchitan the destruction has been horrible. The total number of injured and dead is still not known because the extent of the damage is still unfolding. There is a desperate need for getting supplies to this region since there is no access to water, food and basic supplies. We have now established a contact with a company in Mexico City (Dispensas Mexico, SA) that will be assembling and delivering these emergency supply packages to Juchitán in the coming days. I will be scheduling withdrawals of the total funds from this site to arrange payment for these packages. The funds will be wire transferred directly to D.M., SA. Once arriving in Juchitán we will use folks on the ground there to take packages to the areas of the city most in need t.b.d. upon arrival of the packages.
