Metarobics Research and Education

My name is Dr. Pete Gryffin. Almost 10 years ago I had three students tell me that their cancer was not responding to treatment, until they started my Tai Chi class at Fullerton College. I was curious why, and started researching cancer. I found that cancer is tremendously complicated by hypoxia (oxygen deficiency in the body). Tai Chi and similar exercises are aimed at increasing oxygen use in the body. Upon further research, I found that hypoxia complicates or underlies almost every chronic condition, from diabetes to arthritis. Since these exercises are not aerobic nor anaerobic, I coined the word "Metarobic," due to effects on enhanced oxygen based metabolism. See Metarobics.org  for full details. The implications are tremendous for health, and the promotion of these exercises. A primary barrier identified for promotion and research, is a lack of understanding of specific mechanisms of benefit. Similar to the aerobics boom following Dr. Ken Coopers work on aerobics 45 years ago, Metarobic research will help create a new field of health and fitness. Like many new innovations, it has been a struggle to integrate research into current programs and agenda. With the implications for health and saved lives, I am seeking to create a non-profit research and educational institution, to further investigation and promotion of Metarobic exercises for health.
