A Memorial for Devon Cooley

Donation protected
We, the 6th grade team at Mead Middle School in Wichita, KS are raising money to create a Memorial for our former 6th grade student, Devon Cooley.  Devon Cooley was in sixth grade this past school year.  He was an "out of the box" kind of thinker, who made efforts to help students, even during after school tutoring.  Devon was charismatic and embraced himself and others as individuals.  He wasn't scared to be different and had a wide variety of friends at Mead Middle School.  He was full of imagination and could relate to anyone by sharing stories to grow bonds with others.  He loved to make people laugh and connected with others based on their interests.  Devon tried everything once and supported others to do the same. Devon was also very passionate about skateboarding and spoke often of his dreams to surround himself in the "skateboarding world".

On Friday, May 27th Devon Cooley fell into the Gypsum Creek in southeast Wichita, while trying to cross.  Since the 27th the Wichita Fire and Police Departments, along with the search and rescue crew have been searching the creek and  the Arkansas River for Devon.  Their once rescue mission has now become a recovery operation and sadly has been unsuccessful at this time.

The money will be used to create a Memorial at Mead Middle School to always remember Devon Cooley.  The memorial will be a Locking Skateboard Security Rack (Brute 12-T model), which will be placed outside Mead Middle School.  It will allow Mead students who skateboard to school to lock their skateboards outside until after school is over.  Devon's love and passion for skateboarding was apparent, as everyone at Mead knew how passionate he was about skateboarding.  We, the 6th grade team at Mead Middle School feel this memorial would be perfect to honor Devon.

Additionally, at Mead we have 4 different House Teams.  Devon was a proud member of the Powerful Purple Pumas.  Recently, the 6th grade team has purchased picnic tables for the entire school to use.  We will use this GoFundMe project to not only pay for the Locking Skateboard Security Rack (Bruite 12-T model), but we will use it to buy paint for all the tables, along with engraved memorial plaques for the rack and tables and any additional supplies that are needed.  Additional supplies may include, but are not limited to concrete, chains and locks and various landscaping items.

The sixth grade team, other staff members and students of Mead Middle School would be beyond thankful for any and all donations to make this project possible.  Devon was a very well-liked kid and had many friends at Mead.  Please help us to honor this energetic and outgoing student who loved skateboarding by creating this memorial at Mead Middle School.
