Our daughter Bianca 34, passed away on February 5, 2016 in one of Honolulu's hospitals. Bianca checked into the hospital with a minor lower leg skin infection/weakness, which resolved itself in just a few days. However due to gross medical negligence, she sustained anoxic brain injury and was brain dead within 24 hours of admission.
Our grief over the loss of Bianca has been prolonged over the past several months as we have yet to receive a proper explanation of the cause from her doctor. A letter issued to us by Patient Services and written by her doctor was riddled with inconsistencies, and on top of that we had to threaten them with media coverage just to even have this letter released to us.
Despite our continued efforts, 10 months have passed and we have received no death certificate yet, as her case is still under coroner's investigation. The hospital presented her to the medical examiner as "comatose on admission". However her ED record indicate she was fully alert, had phone calls with her parents and had a visit from her friend just a few hours before slipping into a coma the following day.
Based on her chart which we reviewed, we believe her care was a string of one breach in the standards of care after another. During our investigation we came across disturbing instances of systemic corruption in various agencies such as the Hawaii Department of Health. Beyond negligence the evidence we’ve seen so far also opens up the possibility of foul play, however we need to dig deeper into our investigation with lawyers to determine whether this was the case or not. In order to facilitate this, we have set up this gofundme page to help pay for the legal team needed to find justice for Bianca.
Bianca led a vibrant life that included being featured as a model in Italian, French, British and Japanese Vogue. She loved life, was highly intelligent, well-traveled, fluent in 3 languages and primarily concerned about environment and humanitarian issues of people in underdeveloped countries.
The Bianca Krizek Memorial/Legal Fund has been opened in order for us to be able to continue further investigation to find the individuals directly responsible for her death so that they can be held accountable for their actions. We want justice for Bianca, and closure for her loved ones who cherished her. Furthermore we want to make sure this does not happen to anybody else in the future.
