I'm Demontris Toliver's sister in-law and I'm begging for help to cover funeral and other expenses.
25 year old Demontris Tolliver and his 21 year old fiancé were shot at in the French Quarter early this morning while visiting New Orleans for his birthday. They were walking alongside friends when a stranger decided to fire into a crowd of innocent people. Demontris was hit and his 21 year old fiancé had to hold his hand while he lay on the pavement bleeding. He did not survive the shooting and was pronounced dead this morning. This was a senseless act of violence that is wreaking havoc on our entire family. A life taken for no reason.
When you're young you don't realize how fragile life is and you certainly don't expect it to be cut short so soon. We did not have a life insurance policy in place. We never expected to need one. The coroner will release the body in 3 days and we need to be able to pay for funeral expenses before the funeral home will bury him. Also, he and his fiancé were living together and she will be assuming all of the expenses previously shared between the two of them. We are begging for help and anything will be of help.
