Comrades were attacked by neo-Nazis yesterday in an act of terrorism in Charlottesville, Virginia. Please donate what you can to help cover the cost of their medical expenses, trauma counseling and support their needs.

Two DSA members were injured and have since been discharged from the hospital. These funds will be used to cover the medical expenses of all injured in the attack, regardless of their membership or affiliation with DSA. Currently 19 people are reported as injured overall in the attack and tragically, at least one person has died (It has not been confirmed that comrade from the Industrial Workers of the World was killed)

We must mourn for the dead as we fight like hell for the living.

Update on Disbursement of Funds for Comrades Injured in Charlottesville

As our comrades in Texas and Florida are raising money for disaster relief from the capitalism and climate change fueled crises of Irma and Harvey, we on the steering committee wanted to provide an update on the disbursement of funds of the nearly $200,000 that DSA members raised to support those injured at Charlottesville on August 12th (A12).

The Steering Committee of the the National Political Committee voted on October 14th, 2017 to distribute all the money raised to the National Compassion Fund (NCF).

The NCF, part of the National Center for Victims of Crime, has a track record of confidentiality vetting victims and transparently distributing funds to victims of violent crimes such as the Pulse Orlando shooting. The NCF works with a steering committee of local leaders representing affected groups to decide allocation of funds, and have discreet ways to verify victims without consulting law enforcement. DSA members collectively raised about $200,000 in the wake of the horrific attack in Charlottesville in an incredible display of solidarity. As a rapidly growing and volunteer lead organization, we realize that we are not the best placed to ensure that this money is distributed fairly and comprehensively. Therefore, we are proud to work with the NCF and appreciate their help and expertise in making sure that the funds raised by DSA activists will find their way to the people who need them most. We will be reaching out to those who contacted us directly for funds to help them work with NCF.

If you know of anyone from Charlottesville in need of assistance who has not yet received support, please have them contact the NCF here. On the form, they can indicate they are seeking funds through DSA.
