Medical Fund for Cody Woolard

$33,280 of $30,500 goal

Raised by 336 people in 8 months
Created October 5, 2017
As many of you know, on September 30th Cody was in a terrible and tragic car accident that left him with very serious injuries to his head and body.  He was immediately flown to Albuquerque where he is currently in the neurological intensive care unit at the University of New Mexico Hospital.  The wonderful medical team at UNM is working to get Cody a little more medically stable in terms of his head injury and get him stronger on the respiratory side before they will be able to repair the fractures he sustained in the accident.  He has made great strides since he was admitted and we are all praying and hoping for a full recovery.

Cody has a long road ahead with many unforseen expenses. I ask that you donate any amount that you can so that we may be able to ease a little bit of the financial burden.

I also ask that you keep the two families of Cody's dear friends in your hearts and prayers.  Hannah Crosbie Metzger and Cedrick Adam Kober lost their lives in this tragic accident.

We will do our best to keep everyone updated as any new news comes in.  Thank you so much for thinking of Cody and remember to keep sending all your love, light, prayers and hope because he can feel it!!

Hi All,

First off, thank you to everyone that has generously donated money to help in Cody's recovery. His family appreciates it very much and know that it will help immensely!

For those who haven't seen this on Facebook from Sherri:

Thursday - Cody moved out of UNM hospital yesterday afternoon and into an LTAC facility. His trach was reduced in size with the goal of capping and removing it within the next few weeks. He's typically awake and alert for most afternoons and early evenings. I saw significant comprehension from him yesterday and a desire to participate in his rehabilitation. The days are busy talking to him, exercising his limbs and working on non-verbal communication methods. He will wink for Wendy Gontram and answers yes when I ask him if he remembers that Brooke Hagarty is coming to see him. He's trying to figure out how to make his right arm and hand do what he wants (left arm is broken and in a heavy cast). He reached for a computer tablet where I had a show playing for him twice and finally grasped it on the third try. Baby steps.
Much Love from Us to You!

Hi all,

It has been one month and one day since the night of the terrible accident. The road for Cody has certainly proved to be what we already knew: ups and downs, two steps forward then one step back. He had a step back last week when he stopped responding to commands and spent most of the week sleeping. There were a variety of theories from the doctors about what was causing this from medication changes to something more serious. After CT scans, MRIs and more investigating, they figured out that cerebral fluid was pooling in the space where his skull was removed to relieve pressure. The team at UNM was able to replace the piece yesterday and Cody immediately started responding to commands yesterday following surgery!! He lifted his arms, wiggled his toes and gave a couple of thumbs up!

The amount of love, support and prayers for Cody has lifted his family up in this tough time, so keep them coming! Big Love to everyone and here's to a week full of forward progress!

Hi All,

The middle of the week was very quiet for Cody as they figured out the right combo of meds that would keep his blood pressure stable while not overly sedating him. Once taking him off one of the stronger pain meds on Thursday, he decided to show off a little bit! Upon being asked, he stuck his tongue out (cheeky guy!), wiggled his fingers and flashed us a smile. It was amazing. Sherri said yesterday had him fidgety but calm with his show off move being a nice big bend of the left leg (it has been pretty still). All of this is so exciting and more steps forward down the road of his recovery! Go Cody, Go!

There is a benefit in Taos tonight organized by his friends Heather and Eric. They have a stellar line up of bands as well as many local artists donating pieces in hope of raising more money for Cody. You know he is so mad to miss this party in his honor, but I am sure everyone will do him proud! Here is an article about the event from The Taos News:

A big thank you again to everyone for all of the support for Cody. He is going to be amazed to see all of the love pouring out in his direction. Many of the recent donations have come from family and friends of Hannah Crosbie. You all are in our hearts and our love for Crosbie is soaring high in the New Mexican sky.

It was a day so nice, I have to update you twice! Many of you saw Sherri's update on Facebook, but for those that haven't:

Today is Cody's birthday, and he gave us a great gift today. Late this afternoon, he gave the nurse a thumbs up on command. This is big! She released his right arm and he lifted it to feel his head ... Fingers gently probing his scar and feeling the new hair growth. Very intentional! Before the thumbs up, he blinked on command when I asked him to. Wendy saw it - it's not just 'wishful mom thinking'. I've been talking to him, telling him stories (how Iris will be a big sister tomorrow, that his Dad and sister were here). I began to tell him how he has the most wonderful friends in the world and all of the things they have done for him and us. He picked his right foot up and banged it repeatedly on the bed while looking at me. I had to tell him to stop. I am crying tears of joy right now. Wendy spent most of the day with us followed by this crazy crew below. It was a gift to have them here today. I am grateful for this day. I am grateful for all of you. I am grateful to God for showing us His Love. Much Love from Us to You.
