Medical Fund for Cody Woolard

$34,010 of $30,500 goal

Raised by 345 people in 12 months
Created October 5, 2017
As many of you know, on September 30th Cody was in a terrible and tragic car accident that left him with very serious injuries to his head and body.  He was immediately flown to Albuquerque where he is currently in the neurological intensive care unit at the University of New Mexico Hospital.  The wonderful medical team at UNM is working to get Cody a little more medically stable in terms of his head injury and get him stronger on the respiratory side before they will be able to repair the fractures he sustained in the accident.  He has made great strides since he was admitted and we are all praying and hoping for a full recovery.

Cody has a long road ahead with many unforseen expenses. I ask that you donate any amount that you can so that we may be able to ease a little bit of the financial burden.

I also ask that you keep the two families of Cody's dear friends in your hearts and prayers.  Hannah Crosbie Metzger and Cedrick Adam Kober lost their lives in this tragic accident.

We will do our best to keep everyone updated as any new news comes in.  Thank you so much for thinking of Cody and remember to keep sending all your love, light, prayers and hope because he can feel it!!

Here we are at the 1-year mark.....hard to believe. I want go give everyone an update on Cody. He is now at home after 2 hospitals, 2 skilled nursing facilities and one acute rehab facility in St. Louis. He has made some tremendous progress, but still has a long way to go. On Mother's Day of this year he STARTED TALKING!!! It was day 225 after the accident. That day was a game-changer! He has finally been able to communicate his needs, tell us when he's thirsty or where he hurts. Prior to this everything was guesswork. He has been more actively participating in rehab therapy and getting stronger. He is gaining control of the right side of his body, but still has little movement on the left side, so he is still in a wheelchair. His vision was impacted due to either the accident or his stroke, so we will be seeing an opthamologist and optomitrist very soon. There are still bones that will be properly set eventually. These things were simply not of high priority while in the hospital. Lots to do!
We are adjusting to our new reality and learning what we need to be able to take care of him.
We would like to sincerely thank everyone who has called, text, messaged, visited, inquired, donated and prayed during this time!! The support you have all provided means so much!! We wish each of you the very best!!

Much love!

Hi All,

First off, thank you to everyone that has generously donated money to help in Cody's recovery. His family appreciates it very much and know that it will help immensely!

For those who haven't seen this on Facebook from Sherri:

Thursday - Cody moved out of UNM hospital yesterday afternoon and into an LTAC facility. His trach was reduced in size with the goal of capping and removing it within the next few weeks. He's typically awake and alert for most afternoons and early evenings. I saw significant comprehension from him yesterday and a desire to participate in his rehabilitation. The days are busy talking to him, exercising his limbs and working on non-verbal communication methods. He will wink for Wendy Gontram and answers yes when I ask him if he remembers that Brooke Hagarty is coming to see him. He's trying to figure out how to make his right arm and hand do what he wants (left arm is broken and in a heavy cast). He reached for a computer tablet where I had a show playing for him twice and finally grasped it on the third try. Baby steps.
Much Love from Us to You!

Hi all,

It has been one month and one day since the night of the terrible accident. The road for Cody has certainly proved to be what we already knew: ups and downs, two steps forward then one step back. He had a step back last week when he stopped responding to commands and spent most of the week sleeping. There were a variety of theories from the doctors about what was causing this from medication changes to something more serious. After CT scans, MRIs and more investigating, they figured out that cerebral fluid was pooling in the space where his skull was removed to relieve pressure. The team at UNM was able to replace the piece yesterday and Cody immediately started responding to commands yesterday following surgery!! He lifted his arms, wiggled his toes and gave a couple of thumbs up!

The amount of love, support and prayers for Cody has lifted his family up in this tough time, so keep them coming! Big Love to everyone and here's to a week full of forward progress!
