11 years ago, when I first met the 2 month old puppy Nash (and his brothers Crosby, Stills and Young) I knew he was special. Over our years together we both grew, taught fost greyhounds how to live a life of leasure, taught so many people at ren faires and other events how greyt greyhounds (and greyhound/wolfhound mixes like Nash turned out to be), and shared good times and bad. Wherever I was, there was Nash looking for a pet or a treat or a walk.

The saturday before last Nash (who had been just fine that day) refused his dinner and had a stomach very painfull to the touch. We rushed him to our local vet hospital where x-rays and bloodwork showed no problems, but then a ultrasound showed fluid in his abdomen. They thought it was a perforated bowel and couldn't do anything for him there.

So, of course we drove him up to Portland and the excellent DoveLewis vet hospital. It wasn't looking good and the only option was surgery to see what had happened. Turns out that he had a mass on his kidney that burst. They were able to get things cleaned up and remove the kidney. Since then recovery has been a slow road. We took him home last thursday, but he refused to eat anything at home and we had to take him back saturday to find that he had pneumonia. So, another few days in the hospital.

Hopefully he will start eating soon and we can get him home to finish recovering. If not they may have to place a tube in his neck (and put him through another surgery).

With the surgery and all the 24x7 ICU care we have racked up quite a pile of credit card debt. Any donations would go to paying those down and any further medical expenses Nash might incur before he's back home and healthy.

Nash means the world to us and we would be very thankfull for any donations to help defray this sweet boys medical bills.

Nash update!
He is still on 3 heavy (and really expensive!) antibiotics, an anti nausea and a anti-diarreal, but thats down from when he came home. ;)
He is now eating! However, he's being picky and only eating the "good stuff" (chicken, roast, etc) not anything as mundane as kibble. :)
Tomorrow we go in for a checkup where they will take a followup x-ray and see how his lungs look.

I think we are out of the woods now, it's just the long slow road to recovery.

Thanks again to everyone who donated, it really helps out since the final bills are around 24k or so. :(

2018-02-23 update: Nash is doing alright at home. The humans are pretty wiped though grinding up pills and food, pushing them in via the e-tube, escorting him on walks outside 24x7.
Here's a example of the pills he gets at one feeding this morning.

He seems to be resting more comfortably now and even managed to poop in he yard last night (hurray for poop!).

It's still a long daunting road with tons of pills and bills, but we are making progress!

Update! Nash is home! He's got a e-tube in so we can feed him blended up food and get him his meds. He already seems a lot more himself.
Now he just needs to kick this pneumonia (He is on 3 antibiotics) and start eating again.
Its a long road to recovery, but we are hopefull.

Thanks very much to everyone who has donated so far.. I will be sending out thanks to each one of you this weekend. Your generosity really helps us!

Well, he's still not eating much... so they are going to put him under one more time and place a e-tube. This will allow us to get food into his stomach and meds. If that goes well tonight we will get to bring him home tomorrow. Fingers crossed. Of course the vet bills jump by about 4k for this + his last few days of ICU. ;(

Thanks so much to those of you who have donated! Really appreciated.
