Medical Bills for Military Family

On December 9th Kimberly Reinitz was officially diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer. Her husband Joe Reinitz recently returned home from Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The day after his Welcome Home party, Kimberly coughed up blood and went to the Dr for an x-ray. Since that examination, the malignant cells have started to grow faster and the tumor has gotten significantly bigger. The medical team has reported that the cancer presents as “non-small cell lung cancer”, however; due to the rate of growth, the size of the tumor, and spreading to the bones so quickly it is not behaving as such at all. Kimberly and Joe ecompass their life in being healthy and promoting healthy behaviors. Kimberly has never smoked and tries to focus on the health of her family. Both the medical team and the family were caught completely off guard by the behavior of the cancer.
*The Reinitz family does have Tricare Reaeve Select, however; because Joe is RESERVES Tricare RESERVE select does not cover all medical costs.
Some of the medical treatments that are recommended by the Mayo-clinic are not covered by Tricare Reserve Select and others are not covered because they are alternative treatments.
Kimberly and Joe are parents to a wonderful 6 year old boy named Peyton who enjoys spending time playing with his mother and father- the picture above was taken at the airport when Joe returned from a 9 month deployment to Afghanistan in fall of 2016. Peyton, Joe and Kimberly love spending time together around the table with Kimberly’s healthy home cooked meals. Another favorite is playing games, riding rides at the Mall of America, and watching movies together. For the past 5 years the Reinitz family has been trying to get pregnant to add more love to their family. They have been struggling to conceive so the family has turned to adoption to hopefully complete their loving family. Unfortunately adopting will have to be put on hold for the time being.
Service to our country and their community has been a priority in the Reinitz family. Joe has served in the Army for 12 years and has successfully completed 3 combat missions. Joe was one of my husband’s Soldiers and is one of the greatest Soldiers my husband has ever had the opportunity to serve with.
Kimberly has a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology. She has also taught at a low income inner city school and worked with children with special needs. Her and her husband were discussing plans for her to go back to teaching when she started coughing up blood.
Because of the hospital visits, testing and doctor appointments, Joe has had to miss work in support of his wife and to care for their little boy. With the hours decrease, mounting medical bills and daily necessities quickly adding up monetary funds are needed to aid this wonderful family.
We will keep you updated on this wonderful family as they continue to overcome all of the hardships that they are currently facing.
