My name is David Hudgik. I live in beautiful Keene, New Hampshire and I absolutely love the outdoors. I love running through the woods, ripping up my local ski area, Granite Gorge, and just enjoying life OUTSIDE my home. The only problem is, I had an accident four years ago that left me paralyzed. Unable to feel or move anything from my chest down. Arms and all, I was trapped inside my body. What I think to be one of the worst punishments for someone who was so active and in tune with their body as I was.
Before my accident, my favorite thing to do was ski. Everyday I'd try my best to lock in a new trick. Pushing my mind and body to the limits just to get that feeling of accomplishment. It was what I loved to do and it was what I lived to do. The snow, the fresh air, and the excitement, the feeling of accomplishment and adventure, it was all there, but now, in my current situation, I cannot get close to what I love. I can only sit and watch, from a distance.
Since my accident I've only pushed body harder, even at times when I know I shouldn't. Enjoyment of life has turned to anger and frustration and I think I know why. We live life to enjoy it. We are here to love what we live to do and with four years living away from what I love to do it is starting to get to me. I have gotten my body as close as to "fully recovered" as I can (which the doctors have told me will never come). I've gained back the use of my arms and can now feel my whole body which is more than I could have ever imagined. I have done what I can to try and gain back my body but I am still limited to a power wheelchair and far away from skiing.
This is why I have started this GoFundMe campaign. I want to be able to make it up my local ski area again by myself. Yes I've tried to get to the top of the ski area before and it was not easy. Not for me but for my friend Sam who pushed my 450 pound chair up the hill.
Please help me achieve my goal so I can get this Trackchair:
This will allow me to make it back up my local ski area with ease as well as getting out into the woods and closer to nature. But most importantly this chair would bring me much closer to skiing life and happiness. Please help me bring skiing back into my life <3
I need this more than ever. Winter is around the corner and I can't go another winter trapped inside my home watching skiing videos.
