About a month ago Chad and Ashley Ramsey were approached by a family friend about adopting a child. Due to difficult pregnancies and a previous late term loss, they were very excited to grow their family. They were informed that there was drug use during the pregnancy. Chad and Ashley were fully prepared for a detox NICU stay and told that after detox the baby should be ok. Unfortunately, the birth mother's lifestyle choices continued and caused the baby distress leading to an emergency c-section and an eventual HIE (Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy) diagnosis.
Baby Holden, our sweet little super hero, spent his 12 days of life under extensive medical care. In order to prevent any further damage than what had already been done at birth, he was placed on a cooling regimen and placed on several medications to try to get his seizures under control.
Even under full doses of medication he continued to seize, sometimes for 20-30 minutes of each hour. Once they were finally were able to have an MRI done, the family received the devastating news that 80% of his little brain was damaged from massive brain bleeds and oxygen deprivation.
There was nothing else the doctors could do for him. He fought a good fight but they decided to let him go in peace so he would not have to suffer any longer. On February 2nd, friends and family spent their time cuddling and loving little Holden. Early on the morning of the 3rd, Holden’s body began to shut down after an exhaustive fight. He passed that evening in the arms of his Mom and Dad, surrounded by family and lots and lots of love.
Holden's sweet family not only has to tackle their grief, but also adoption, medical, and funeral expenses. We would love for you to help any way that you can.
