MCCT's Much Ado About Nothing

Monroe County Civic Theater has been producing Shakespeare In The Park every summer for over two decades. This free offering of the Bard's work has become our flagship event and has best helped us fulfill our purpose, which is to "involve the local community in the experience of live theater." The City of Bloomington continues to be generous by donating the stage for six weeks - the only time we are ever able to rehearse at a performance space for such an extended period.
Much Ado About Nothing is this years event, a revel of a play with one of the strongest women's roles in Shakespeare - Beatrice aka 'my Lady Tongue.' The wit of this work is exalted and dives deeper than masks and misunderstandings, with one set of hearts seeming to float smoothly but then sinking as another pair circles to cut each other's wind while getting ever closer.
This has been a very good year for MCCT. What that means, for us, is that we have actual set pieces, we are in the black, and our bills are up to date. We have no paid staff, and the nearest thing to a home is the storage shed where we store our costumes. We are expert at productions with shoestring budgets, but there are expenses. We need paint for the set. We need materials for costumes and props. We dream of owning the speakers we use for the Park production. We would also like to have the bathrooms open.
So if you can, please make a personal donation or buy an ad for you business in our program (ad prices listed below). We wish to serve the community a fine production, and there will be people whose first glimpse of the wonder of Shakespeare will be this show. They don't know yet but you do. With your support, we can make this year's event magical. Performances will be held in Waldron Buskirk Hill Park (aka 3rd Street Park) on the main stage behind the police station the weekend of June 3rd. Monroe County Civic Theater is a 501c3 not-for-profit community theater company whose goal is to bring quality classical theater to Monroe County and surrounding areas while providing experience in all aspects of theater production to all interested persons, regardless of their level of ability or experience.
