On 5 Jan 2016, Matthew Q McClintock was KIA in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. He left behind the love of his life, his wife of 3 years Alexandra, and his 3 month old son Declan. Allie put it best with: "Yesterday I lost the love of my life, Declan lost his father, we all lost a loved one. My husband Matthew was killed in action. Matthew's greatest wish was to be a father, a husband, and a green beret. He got to do all of those things in his too short life. Declan will grow up knowing his father was the greatest man I've ever dreamed to know and a hero. I want to thank his teammates for doing everything they could to bring Matthew home to us. Matthew is so deeply loved by so many, please understand during the next span of time I'll be attempting to find some way to cope with the magnitude of this loss and unfortunately words fail me for once so responses will be slow and if you don't receive one at all, know I'm grateful for your love and support. I am surrounded by family and our closest friends. Most people never get to find their soul mate, I'm so blessed for the three wonderful years I got to have with mine and for the rest of my life that I'll get to spend with his son."
~Alexandra McClintock

Matt was one of the funniest, kindest and most loving people I have ever met, so it is on Allie and Declan's behalf that this was created. All donations will go straight to Allie, to help out her and her son during this time of tremendous lost. While the Army will take care of Allie and Declan, it takes time for those benefits to be processed. This is to assist with immediate needs to help Allie care for herself and Declan.

Thank you so much for all of your support.

First, the memorial service information for the services being held in New Mexico are in the prior update. The memorial service that will be held at Ft Lewis will be on February 25th, however it's a small limited space memorial for his team, family, and close friends. We will have more information on his funeral in Arlington soon and when we do it will be made public.

Second, the Army times did an amazing article that is worth reading if you wish to get to know Matt and Allie a little better.

"Eleven days ago the world lost it's most amazing man Matthew McClintock, I lost the great love of my life, and Declan lost his daddy. I can't begin to put in to words the rollercoaster of feelings that I've gone through, from the depths of the darkest depression I could imagine, to the highs of laughter remembering and celebrating the man I love. On that note, many of you have asked about Matthew's memorial services and I finally have some answers for you. The first service will be in his home town of Albuquerque on January 31st at 1pm. It will be at the Kiva Auditorium (401 2nd Street NW - Albuquerque, NM 87102) We have a block of hotel rooms reserved for those of you interested in coming in from out of state. The auditorium can accommodate a large group but to make sure everyone is able to get seating please let us know if you'll be traveling in for it or if you'd like information for the hotel. I'll have more details on the memorial in Washington and the following funeral at Arlington as we finalize plans.

Again, thank you all so much for the support and love, Matthew, Declan, and I are so lucky to have all of you. Thank you."

Once again thank you so much to everyone who has donated, shared, and reached out. It means more than you could ever know.

At this time there is no news about services for Matthew, but once I have information to share I will post it in an update. Thank you so much for your support.

Allie has a way with words I never will, so I'm sharing hers about this video:
"This shows my love better than any article or blurb on the nine o'clock news could ever dream to. This is the man my son and I lost. This is the man an entire family lost. This is the man teammates lost. This is the man the world lost. This, this is my love."

And once again thank you to every person who has donated, shared, and messaged. It's amazing to see just how kind the world can be during the darkest times. And it gives me a little bit more hope in humanity

Today I wept for a man I do not personally know. Today my heart sank as I read the news of the passing of not only a brother but a fellow chiver. Chive on Seattle was there for me in a time that I needed. I can only hope that my contribution can help you in your time of need. Until Valhalla Matt. We will meet again. Thank you for keeping this nation free.

Please know that as a fellow soldier's wife, my heart is breaking with you. I can only pray that you find the strength to get through the most awful time that we all feared most. Mostly, I pray for love. Nothing but love surrounding you at your darkest hour. Someday, when your son is old enough- I pray he knows what a hero his Daddy was and is. In memory of the silly, kind, awesome guy that everyone loved. #cheersmatt #forthosewhogaveall #ftwga #tatonka

I have no adequate words to write on my own, but I found this poem that touched my heart: The muffled drum’s sad roll has beat The soldier’s last tattoo; No more on Life’s parade shall meet The brave and fallen few. On Fame’s eternal camping-ground Their silent tents are spread, And Glory guards, with solemn round The bivouac of the dead. - Theodore O’Hara, American poet and soldier
