MB @ Maccabi Canada Wrestling !!!
Dear friends, family, and supporters!
Around 17 years ago I stepped onto a wrestling mat for the first time and instantly fell in love with the sport. Despite being overweight with a seeming ability to lose every match in the first period for the first two years of my career, I went on to lose 60 pounds and compete in college. The joy this sport has brought me is only surpassed by the life lessons it has instilled in me, lessons I hope to pass on to my own children as they begin their life journeys.
One of the greatest feelings I have experienced has been getting my arm raised on the mat and my children cheering from the sidelines. As parents, we must teach by example. If their father is willing to put in the hard hours in the gym and on the mat, then they, all the more so, should.
As of October 6th, I am one step closer to fulfilling my dream. I have been selected to represent Canada in the 20th Maccabiah Games in Israel Summer 2017 in the 97kg weightclass. My dream is to be able to experience this with my family and am reaching out to everyone to help me realize this goal. To have my family on the sidelines as I step onto the mat in Israel as a proud Jew representing his birth country in the 3rd largest competition in the world.
Here is some basic info:
- The 20th Maccabiah will take place in Israel July 4 – July 18 2017.
- Opening Ceremonies are set to take place July 6, 2017 in Teddy Stadium in Jerusalem.
- Closing Ceremonies are set to take place July 17, 2017.
- The actual dates of the wrestling competition are TBD
- Open athletes pay $8,500 to cover:
1. Training camps/practices with the team prior to departure
2. Clothing package (track suit and other Canadian delegation clothing)
3. Competition uniform
4. Round trip airfare from Canada
5. Accommodations
6. Transportation to competition venues and social events
7. Security
8. Medical care
9. Daily breakfast, lunch, and dinner
10. Competition entry
11. Opening and Closing ceremony participation
Day trips during the Games
12, Maccabi World Union athlete participation fees
- Raising additional $2,000 for family flights
- Raising additional $500 for flights to/from the group flight leaving from Canada
- Raising additional $1,500 for accomodations for family
