Maui's Hips Don't Lie

Hello everyone! If you have ever looked at my social media, you would know that Joe and I have a golden retriever named Maui. A few months ago, Maui came home from the dog park limping, when it didn't stop, we took him to our local vet. Initially described as a sprained knee, we put Maui on rest and thought nothing of it. After a few more weeks, we noticed the limping had not gone away, and we requested x-rays be taken of our beloved pooch. After two misdiagnosises and a few more sets of scans, it was determined that Maui did not have a sprained knee, nor did he have hip displasia, but instead had a growth problem on the head of his left femur. We had accepted our fate and later brought Maui in for a full hip replacement, a pricey $6,000 surgery. The following day Maui went in for his last set of scans before going under the knife, at this point I would love to say everything looked great and Maui has a new hip, unfortunately, the diagnosis said otherwise. The lesions that had originally only been seen on the left hip were now on the right as well. For those of you doing the math, you added correctly... that's $12,000 in surgery within a 6-7 month window (excluding the thousands spent on scans). Thankfully, we were smart enough to purchase insurance for our fur baby, but even with their assistance, we are expecting a bill of around $7,000. 

For those of you who have not purchased pet insurance, we highly recommend it! There is a big difference between $12,000 and $7,000.
