This winter I'll be taking the next step in alleviating my dysphoria and anxiety with regards to my chest. I've been dealing with this since before I knew the terms for it. I was terrified of what would happen to my chest before puberty, and I've been living trapped and distressed ever since. Gender dysphoria manifests differently for everyone; for me it utterly drains my desire to live and interact with people. It was so bad for me that it took months of HRT before I could even do the basics an adult should--buy myself groceries, drive myself places, work without becoming deeply suicidal. Treatment for me is literally life-saving. I cannot function without it.
Since receiving appropriate treatment I've been improving by leaps and bounds. I'm employed again and currently going back to school. I'm trying desperately to repair the damage done by years of forcing myself to just cope--my anxiety and PTSD are intertwined with my dysphoria--but there's only so much I can do. I have top surgery scheduled for winter break from school this year, which will vastly improve my quality of life and mental well-being. Despite cutting corners every way I can think, from ride sharing to putting off repairing appliances around the home, I'm still short the funds. My surgery will cost $11k. With what I have saved so far and what I can scrape together in the next months, I'll still need $3k.
I am also facing continuing harassment and stalking which makes sharing this publicly difficult and dangerous. Because of that, I'm seeking an additional $2k to cover any legal fees that may occur should my stalkers escalate (as they did when they learned of my legal name change), in order protect myself.
I'd appreciate anything positive you could put forward in regards to this, whether it be a small amount or just to share it. I'm beyond grateful I get this opportunity to repair myself and my life, to get a second chance at living. I absolutely believe in helping others and will be going into a medical-related field to do just that.
