Matt Olson, 20 year old defenseman for the Chicago Cougars #3 from Isanti, MN on 2/21/16 caught an edge racing for a puck behind the net and was severely injured. This was not the result of physical contact from any player. This was a very serious spinal injury that resulted in permanent damage. The family appreciates all the prayers and well wishes. Please use this site to help support Matt's lifelong journey. http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/mattolson.3

Hello Matt! I just found out what happened to you during an icehockey game. I am a former teammate of a player in your team; Jesper. 4 years ago I got hit from a bad angle and fell on my back. I managed to get a permanent spinal cord injury which I am "suffering" from to this day. Sometimes it helps (at least it did for me) to talk with someone having experienced the same thing as you have. I know what you and your family are going through , as I have experienced all that. So if there is anything you need to talk, ask or just chatt about, you can contact me on Faceook if you want to. Stay strong and positive.

Hi Matt 10 years ago i fell broke my neck and had an incomplete spinal cord injury. I to was considered to be quadriplegic. I also ended up at Lutheran general the people there were amazing. I spent 3 months there learning how to walk again. I'm not able to move like i used to but i can walk and do thing i was told i would never do. People will tell you u wont be able to do this or that, I heard it all my response was always bs watch me. You have a rough road ahead of you but the thing to remember is to believe you are going to get better, never doubt it and you will succeed, be patient it will take time, but you will get there. Don't be afraid to lean on friends and family. I hope my words help and i wish you the best and a speedy recover. Also if you need someone to chat with who's been there please feel free to contact me.

I want Matt and his family to know that I'm praying serval times a day. My son Cody Campbell told me about Matt and what happened. I know you don't know me but my son sure knows of you Matt. Cody speaks very highly of you. When I heard what happened I was just devastated. Then I said to myself "I'm gonna pray so hard and so often ,Jesus is going to do what I say . ". I believe very strongly bin the power of prayer. I believe in miracles. I believe in you Matt. Believe in yourself. Never Give Up. You have so many people praying and pulling for you. Just know you have a person in Colorado that has a lot of people praying for you. You will recover. I have no doubt. I have faith. It's not gonna be easy in any way but from the way Cody speaks about you...let's just say I would bet everything I have on you.

Hey Matt, i hope your kicking ass in therapy! I heard what happened to you and i was shocked because i was injured at the Sears Centre as well. I was in a motocross crash there during an arenacross race on Jan 15th 2011. I walked after about 6 months and did the Willis Tower stair climb. Im still not near 100% but im busting my butt every single day to get back to 100% or just about that. Just wake up every day and visualize your goals. I started with no movement at all in any of my limbs, then worked to just be able to drive my power wheelchair, then a manual wheelchair, then standing, then walking! Keep trying to move your toes and hands, you dont know what you can do unless you try. Dont let anybody tell you that you cant skate again, you and your family know you can do it! Keep working hard my friend.

Hi Matt! I'm a big Blackhawks fan and I heard about your injury. I'm so sorry you have had to go through this. I too was a patient at Lutheran General in 2013, for three months, d/t a disease called Amyloidosis. I can attest that you are in very capable hands. Dr. Ruge actually did brain surgery on my mom to remove a malignant tumor. He is wonderful! I was in the acute rehab unit for seven weeks then sent to a skilled nursing unit to learn how to walk again. You have a long road ahead of you but don't give up! Pray to God every time you think of him and he will be at your side all the way. I wasn't expected to live and today I'm able to walk and enjoy my family and friends. God bless you! You are in my prayers!

Hi Matt, my husband and I have been following your story. I am so sorry about your injury. Hopefully, we can give you hope. On June 29, 2013 my husband fell 15 feet and broke is c1 vertebra in 2 places, his c2, c3 and fractured his T7. He spent 2 weeks in trauma intensive care at Christ Hospital, Oak Lawn, IL, and 3 months at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, Mark is quadriplegic with an incomplete spinal cord injury, we were told he wold never move again from the neck down. He wore a halo for 86 days. By the grace of God, my husband walked (more like shuffled) out of RIC, to this day he is unable to move his arms and has 3% movement in his fingers on his left hand. Mark will never be the same before his accident, but we thank God every day that he is alive and moving. You have a long, journey ahead of you, please stay strong and positive. We are praying for you and your family.
