Hello friends and family, strangers and aquaintances!
My name is Matt Campbell. Thank you so much for taking a second to take a look at my fundraising campaign. If you're reading this, you probably know me and my work, or you know someone who knows me, or perhaps someone you know posted this, and you're a fan of Canadian music and supporting dreams.
Before you read further, this is less of a fundraiser, and more of a pre-order. I'm not asking for donations necessarily, I'm asking you to help me fund the recording of my sophmore album of original music by buying one before it's made, so I can make it. Make sense? I hope so. I know that every one of you has things they want to do and can't, so I've been really hesistant to do this, because I don't want it to seem like a handout. I hope it feels like more of an investment. How much is the record worth? That's going to be up to you.
I've been working as a singer and musician professionally in Canada for the last 17 years or so. I've been lucky to make some music and share the stage with some great artists over the years. People like Tom Cochrane, Sarah Harmer, Terry Hatty, John Connolly, Bob Foster, Alfie Zappacosta, Ben Kunder, Lennie Gallant, Ben Birchard, Patti Labelle, Dee Snider, and Taylor Dayne.
I've been trying for about 7 years to make this record. I would record a couple songs in this city, a couple songs in this closet, and every time they'd get a bit closer to feeling right, but I just didn't have the time or money to get it done right.
That's all I'm asking you to support. I just want to take 9 or 10 songs that I've worked really hard on, and that I'm really proud of, and have them recorded and mixed the way they are suppose to sound, After that, it's your problem if you like it or not :)
The plan is to go into the studio with a great group of musicians and make a record that just sounds really good. No crazy bells and whistles, just good instruments, played well by good people. It will have guitars, mandolins, drums, and bass, and pianos and fiddles and harmonies.
It's going to be a record you can turn up loud, or play soft, and hopefully will sound really good on a Sunday. Or in a car with the windows rolled down driving on highway 12 between Orillia and Coldwater. These songs come from a really honest place, and are about some pretty honest places, and I think you'll connect with them, because I'm pretty sure our stories aren't that different.
If I can find 150 people that believe in what I do enough to throw me $20 bucks to buy this album in advance, I can get it done. If you feel like giving a bit more to help the process and letting me push this thing a bit further and add another horn or another singer, amazing, it would be deeply appreciated and put to extremely good use.
What I promise you is that every dollar I'm given will be used in the most effective way, and I'm going to work my ass off. I will put my heart and soul into making this music.
Any help at all would mean a great deal, and you'd be helping create something, that for better or worse, will be here to stay.
This album will be accompanied by a new website, and some fun a/v components in the months to come. I'm going to shoot a couple of music videos. 90's styles.
The album will be available both digitally, on compact disc, and I'll be pressing some vinyl if you want to upgrade at a later date. I'll ship you a disc or give you a download code.
