As a disabled person I got the idea for Matchinghouses.com after several terrible experiences trying to travel, either overseas for a holiday or even relatively nearby to visit friends and relatives.
Matchinghouses.com is a unique idea that we've been refining and testing, until we're now ready to launch. This website answers the question - "How can disabled people travel, safe in the knowledge that the place they're going to will be accessible to them?"
I myself have been on trips locally, as well as overseas, only to find when I arrived at my destnation that I couldn't even get into the building, let alone the room. And this is in spite of the fact that I was assured by the people to whom I spoke that everything was completely accessible for me as a wheelchair user.
One particularly terrible time we arrived at our hotel at 3am. Our room was on the second floor. And I couldn't even fit into the lift. When we got to the room I couldn't use the bathroom. We had been saving all year for a holiday and were heartbroken.
Matchinghouses.com solves this problem. We are a house swap website for disabled people. The principle is simple - if I am a wheelchair user and can get around in my own house, then you as a wheelchair user will also be able to get around my house, if your chair is the same size as mine.
Likewise if you are a blind person then your house will be set up to be accessible to other blind people.
It's a simple concept - our website has a database that matches houses based on a set of simple questions. If your house matches mine then let's swap for a holiday!
We're now at a stage where we're almost ready to launch. This appeal is for some money to upgrade the site's computer code, to update the look of the site, and to manage the database so that only people who really want to swap houses are listed on our database.
Disabled people often have little or no money. Travel is often the last thing on their minds. This site provides an affordable way to travel either overseas or even just relatively locally.
Your money will get us over the finishing line to launch to the many millions of disabled people who could benefit from this service.
