Remember your hometown -- and its most unique building?

We do, and we're working to bring it back to life on the Main Street of Bottineau, North Dakota, a hockey-loving town of 2,500 that's just 12 miles south of the Canadian border. We formed a nonprofit organization to launch the Stone Bank Project and save this 1900 landmark that originally housed the county's first bank. But don't worry, Elizabeth Warren: It won't be a bank anymore. It might house the local tourism office, an Internet coffee shop for community college kids or a short-order cafe to complement the single-screen theater across the street. But in any case, we'll save it for another 100+ years rather than let the City Council raze it -- if you help!

The State Historical Society of North Dakota has given our project a $20,000 grant, but it must be matched dollar for dollar. We have nearly $5,000 in hand, and this week we're launching a "Class of '72 Campaign" to raise $7,200 from the 70 other members of our graduating class at Bottineau High School. But this is a small town, and it has only so much charitable giving to go around. That's why we need you go-funders from all around the world.

You might never travel to remote Bottineau, N.D., and personally enjoy the warm glow of these stones, but if you help us match our grant and save this community cornerstone, it should warm your heart, no matter where you live. Losing these historic structures hurts everyone, but rebuilding them lifts us all.

If you can give $100, you'll stand alongside the Bottineau Class of '72, but whatever amount you can give will be greatly appreciated and gratefully acknowledged. This campaign needs to raise $7,200 by March 1 so we can raise our new roof and back wall in the spring, in time to meet the April 15 deadline for our matching grant. Thank you -- from our hometown to yours!

Please join the Class of '72 in supporting the restoration of this beautiful and historic building. With your help, we hope to enclose the back of the building in 2017.

On June 30, the grant period for which we were raising matching funds ended, but our need to raise money to keep working on the Stone Bank goes on.

Every single dollar makes a difference. Our contractors have been at work, but we need to cover the new floor joists so they aren't damaged by the elements. So your gift really makes a difference.

Let's do this!

If you prefer to send a check. Please send it to:
Touchstones, Inc.,
P.O. Box 272

Thank you. We appreciate your interest in this project.

We have only 24 days left to match a generous $20K grant from the Historical Society of ND to support repairs on the Stone Bank.

We are challenging the BHS Class of '72 to get the party started by chipping in $100 each to join the effort to preserve one of Bottineau's coolest buildings.

But the Class of '72 can't do it alone. We need everyone who cares about Bottineau's history and its future to show this project some love.

All gifts are welcome, and all funds go directly to the project. We have a hard deadline of June 30 to match this grant. Your donation today will make a difference.

Let's rock this deadline and move this project forward in 2017. The time is now.

More details at www.stonebankblog.wordpress.com and at StoneBank.org.

Please give today. Together we can make the match and move this project forward.
Help us rock Bottineau's history. Give!
Next step: A floor deck, walls and roof.

I am making this donation on behalf of my wife, Sharon Kessler, a member of the Bottineau H.S. Class of '72, and in memory of S. Randy Winston, a wonderful doctor, humanitarian and friend of the Stone Bank. My hometown is Minneapolis, which has preserved its Richardsonian city hall. The Stone Bank has a similar design, on a much smaller scale, but it's well worth preserving, too!
