Hi! My name is Alicja Sulkowska, I’m a percussionist.
I was born and raised in really small city in Poland – Łomża. But still, that was a place where my musical adventure began. Since I was 11, I was a member of early music ensemble, Voci Unite, which taught me what passion and pursuing the goal is. Thanks to it I realised that I not only love, but, more importantly, I understand music - and I want to share and spread its beauty. Besides, in this collective I came across the percussion instruments for the first time, and I fell in love with them with all my heart. I came to this point that I changed my musical education path. Starting from learning how to play accordion, through clarinet and even flute, I ended up playing percussion. After a few intensive years of dealing with two separate schools and an ensemble, I decided to apply for a bachelor program in Academy of Music. Until now I find a day of my acceptance as one of the luckiest day in my life. Being in Gdańsk let me believed that I can already be considered as a respectable musician.
Who would even think that all this years could lead me to taking part in Erasmus+ student exchange program in Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London (school graduated by Daniel Craig and Ewan McGregor!)? For seven months I had the greatest pleasure of making music along with the best, learning from musicians of London Symphony Orchestra (that’s right, this is THE orchestra that recorded “Star Wars” soundtrack!) and, at the same time, being able to listen to the finest performances in the world. I cherished it that much, I’ve started to dream about taking my Master degree there. So, without even single thought, I applied, just to try my luck, and suddenly...
I GOT IN!!!
Unfortunately, this story isn’t yet over, ending with carefree getting back to London. Studying there is enormously expensive (not to mention the cost of living), and the student master’s loan is insufficient to cover even the tuition. That’s why I am forced to ask for your help. I mean to do anything what’s in my power to become a professional musician with the highest qualification, perform with the best and learn from the greatest – thus guaranteeing the fulfillment of my dreams.

Dzień dobry, cześć! Nazywam się Alicja Sulkowska, jestem perkusistką.
Urodziłam się i wychowałam w niepozornym mieście – Łomży. To tam zaczęła się moja przygoda z muzyką. Odkąd skończyłam 11 lat, byłam członkinią zespołu muzyki dawnej Voci Unite, który nauczył mnie pasji i dążenia do celu. Dzięki niemu uświadomiłam sobie, że nie tylko kocham, ale przede wszystkim rozumiem muzykę – i chcę dzielić się jej pięknem. W tym zespole zresztą po raz pierwszy zetknęłam się z dawnym instrumentarium perkusyjnym i pokochałam to całym sercem. Do tego stopnia, że zmieniłam ścieżkę swojej dotychczasowej muzycznej edukacji z nauki gry na akordeonie (poprzez klarnet, a i nawet flet poprzeczny!) na perkusję. Po kilku intensywnych latach w łączeniu szkoły średniej, szkoły muzycznej oraz zespołu postanowiłam zdawać na Akademię Muzyczną. Do dzisiaj jako jeden z najszczęśliwszych dni w moim życiu uznaję przejście egzaminów wstępnych, dostanie się na wymarzone studia i do wybranego profesora, po jedynie czterech latach obcowania z instrumentem i cały pobyt w obcym, ale jakże dobrym dla mnie mieście - Gdańsku.
Kto by się spodziewał, że wszystkie te lata doprowadzą mnie do uczestniczenia w programie wymiany studenckiej Erasmus+ w londyńskim Guildhall School of Music and Drama (szkoły, której absolwentami są między innymi Daniel Craig i Ewan McGregor!)? Miałam niesłychany zaszczyt przez 7 miesięcy grać z najlepszymi, uczyć się od muzyków grających w London Symphony Orchestra (tak, to ta orkiestra, która nagrała ścieżkę dźwiękową do „Gwiezdnych Wojen”!) i jednocześnie słuchać wykonań najlepszych na świecie. Pokochałam to tak bardzo, że zapragnęłam zdawać właśnie tam na studia magisterskie. Nie wiele myśląc, złożyłam aplikację, by “spróbować swoich sił” i nieoczekiwanie…
DOSTAŁAM SIĘ!!!
Niestety ta historia (jeszcze) nie kończy się beztroskim powrotem do Londynu. Studia są bardzo drogie (nie wspominając o kosztach utrzymania), a system kredytu studenckiego na studia magisterskie jest niestety niewystarczający, by pokryć choćby czesne, stąd moja prośba o pomoc. Będę robić wszystko, co w mojej mocy, by zostać profesjonalnym muzykiem o najwyższych kwalifikacjach, grać z najlepszymi i uczyć się od najwspanialszych – tym samym gwarantując sobie spełnienie marzeń.
