Mason Wasz' Emergency Expense Fund
Mason had been at the pediatrician three times in the last 2 days with a cough, and then the ER on Friday night for fluids. They were told it was viral and would have to run its course. Saturday afternoon, Mason was lethargic and Mike called an ambulance. Mason was unresponsive with a faint heartbeat and shallow breathing, and Mike gave him CPR with the guidance of dispatch. The ambulance took him to the hospital in Huntley, where he was stabilized and then Flight for Life airlifted him to Chicago.
Melissa and Mike don’t have many answers yet, but Mason’s body is responding to meds and treatment, and they continue to run tests. They are waiting for Mason to be stable enough to run a CT scan, to check for brain activity. It is still unknown how long he was without oxygen. He is breathing with help and is being sedated to let his little body rest.
Melissa and Mike have been told that Mason will be at Lurie’s for at least a week, if not more. They are unsure what the future holds for Mason, and they have been told to be prepared for a long road ahead.
The Wasz family are simply wonderful! Many may know Mike as the mailman for downtown Crystal Lake, or perhaps Melissa has taught your son or daughter how to skate at the Crystal Ice House? John and I would like to help ease their financial burden a bit, so that they can concentrate on getting Mason better. We are asking for your help too. Please consider donating, and of course, please keep this little boy in your thoughts and prayers!!
I know many of you have been asking for details about Mason's Visitation and Funeral.

Well friends...tonight we will be saying goodbye to our perfect Mason. We signed all paperwork last night with Gift of Hope and his organs and tissues will go to help other kids not have to be in this situation. It's comforting to us to know that hopefully Mason will live on in others. Because Mason is everyone's "Little Helper", as we always called him, he would want that...to know that he is giving the gift of life to someone who needs it. That's the ultimate help.
I was able to sleep with him and cuddle him last night for a couple hours for the first time since Saturday which was awesome.
Today we have spent the day getting a hand mold done, locks of hair snipped and handprints and footprints done on paper. They are truly beautiful.
We know that you are all behind us holding us up. We couldn't get through this without your love and support. We are lucky that we and Mason have so much! We are gonna need it. We have realized through this what amazing people we truly have around us.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for everything while on this journey.
We love you all.
Uugghhh!! Mason is a strong little munchkin and he is doing his best. He is such a fighter and everyone is fighting for him. The staff here is amazing. I can't tell them enough how safe and trusting we feel with them and how lovely and caring they are. Angels here on earth.
Unfortunately, we have heard that things aren't going as well for our little man. He is not responding well anymore to the meds being given. We have had many tough conversations with the doctors, nurses and specialists today. We have a meeting tomorrow with various specialists from all departments to try to figure out what's best for Mason after todays news. We have gotten a lot of information and we have to find strength to face these discussions.
He has had a ton of love from awesome people today and thanks so much for coming to see him. He and we love each and everyone of you. He and we also love everyone that wasn't here but sending love and support. That's means just as much.
I am Michael, Mason's dad and this outpouring of generosity, wishes, thoughts, prayers and love from those of you we know and don't know has been amazing. Melissa & I have read your messages to Mason and we know he hears them and appreciates them. I want to hug and kiss every one of you. You are all amazing!
Our hearts go out to you...I just wanted to let you know that we have been lifting up Mason in prayer. Members of Team World Vision & our small group at Willow Crystal Lake have been praying throughout the day & night since Saturday. We want you to know you are loved & praying that God comforts you & gives you strength through all of this. We are thinking of you Mason, get well soon little buddy!
