Mason Ensor's Hospital Help

Donation protected
Mason is an 11-year-old hero.

The majority of Mason's short life has been spent pushing through severe, life-threatening allergies, debilitating asthma, and hospital stay after hospital stay.

On Tuesday, December 27th, 2016, Mason was super annoyed (as pre-teens tend to be) when his mom, Lindsay, brought him to the hospital, after an asthma attack that she couldn't get under control at home.

Mason went into this, his 24th hospitalization, with active diagnoses of:

*TracheoBronchomalacia
*Vocal Cord Dysfunction
*Asthma & Chronic Cough
*Common Variable Immunodeficiency (CVID)
*Life Threatening Food Allergies: Milk, Egg, Peanut, All Tree Nuts, All Seeds
*Recurrent Pneumonia
*Recurrent Atelectasis
*Periodic Limb Movement Disorder
*Sleep Apnea
*ADHD- inattentive type
*Anxiety/ Depression
*Environmental Allergies

Mason is no stranger to tests and multiple doctors working on him at once. His parents are used to the same, and all that goes in to an ER, the rushing around and urgency, etc. So, no thought was given when this, again, became the case.

What no one realized, not even Mason himself, was that this was not asthma. This was some sort of anaphylactic reaction; different than anything they had experienced before.

After many tests, radiologists confirmed he had also developed pericarditis (inflammation of the lining of the heart), partial collapsing of both lungs, as well as sarcoidosis of the lungs (another auto-immune condition where groups of inflamed cells group together in clumps).

Aside from the collapsed lungs, these are two new diagnoses that serve as even more complicated pieces to the puzzle that is Mason. Repeatedly, his family has heard that he is anything but “text book."

Doctors are stumped as to exactly what triggered this particular episode. They do know that areas of his trachea and lung tissue are dangerously thin and he is in need of a surgery to separate an area of his trachea where the aorta has attached itself; known as an Aortapexy.

This sweet boy, whose parents have tried their hardest to give him a normal life, despite his debilitating medical issues, is a true fighter and stronger than most adults you know.

He has spent many weeks in the hospital this past year alone. He has been flown to specialists all over the country. And, while a typical 11-year-old would freak out over a measly flu vaccine, Mason has been poked, prodded, scanned, and assessed by more people than he could possibly count, and he has taken it all in stride, with the sweet demeanor and sly smile God blessed him with.

As wealthy as this beautiful family is in love and faith in God, their pockets are not as overflowing. They have incurred intense medical bills from doctors, prescriptions and home health needs this year alone.

This isn't to mention the other costs that are incurred with a lengthy hospital stay: Meals on the road, gas money to-and-from the hospital, missed time from work...

The tally grows frighteningly long each and every day.

Friends, I get it. It is the holiday season. This is another GoFundMe on your Facebook feed. I know we've all spent too much on presents. I know that right now is not a good time to be asking for financial help. But please. PLEASE help this family. Give up Starbucks for a week to lift $20 of burden from the Ensor's shoulders. Give up eating out for a month to bless them with $100. Each individual offering may not seem like much, but even the smallest amounts put together add up quickly.

Many hands make for light work. The same is true for here.

Please pray diligently for the Ensor family and for Mason's health. This family deserves a break now, more than ever before.

Thank you all so much.

With deepest gratitude,

P.S. GoFundMe is a great, easy way to donate, however they do charge a fee. If you want the most money possible to end up with the Ensors, you can also donate through PayPal (even if you don't have a PayPal account) using the email: [email redacted].

One of Mason's favorite sports to play is baseball. This was taken last season (2015).

Brody (R), Mason (L) and me when I got to visit them in 2010. I love these boys!
