A good family friend, Tina Frost, was injured in the mass shooting in Las Vegas on October 1st.

This is a message from Mary Watson Moreland (her mother) on Tina's condition updated on October 2nd:
"Tina is out of surgery and her vitals are stable. They removed her right eye, where the bullet was lodged, and there is an implant there now to keep the space open. She has sight in her left eye but will never see from the right again. They took out a bone from her forehead to allow the brain room to swell, that will stay out for a few months. She's in a coma and on a ventilator, she cannot breathe on her own. She's critically stable in ICU for at least a week. Over the next few days, they're going to see how she responds to simulation, but until then, we won't know how bad the brain damage is.”

We are raising money to cover all expenses related to this tragic event such as traveling, food, hotels, missed work, and caring for Tina.

Update from Mary:

Hi everyone,

We just wanted to let you know that our Tina will be undergoing yet another surgery tomorrow. She recovered very well and quickly from the May 23rd surgery, so yes onto this next one. The surgeons will be giving Tina an eyelid tomorrow. They took cartilage from a previous surgery, but we will know more after the surgical team goes in and sees what is there and we will give everyone an update sometime tomorrow.

We would like to thank you again for all your prayers and support, we truly appreciate it.

Team Tina

Hi again, it’s Team Tina,

Surgery went well and we’re home resting! Her recovery time was amazing and smooth since they gave her the upset tummy medicine this time. We were hoping she would have a full eyelid after this one, but we have all learned a lot more today about the doctors’ plans. They completed the first of a few stages which involved more internal work on the skin underneath and inside the eye/eyelid area, including borrowing some tissue from the inside of her mouth. She’ll need more surgeries down the road, but we all have confidence in all of Tina’s teams of doctors and they all are just amazing. She will not get her full prosthesis until after the other stages and we will be meeting with an ocularist here to get a more semi-permanent placeholder than she has now.

Some great news that we would also like to share is that Tina finished up her rehabilitation day program called “Return” at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore and they all were wonderful. Tina’s next phase in this marathon of her recovery is for her and Austin to return to their home in San Diego which will probably happen towards the end of July! We are working on getting her a new team of doctors and therapists for continued recovery and Austin will return to hopefully return to work shortly thereafter.

We will keep everyone apprised as new big steps approach. Now onto some quiet time with Megan and Becky who flew home to be with all of us for this step.

We also would like to truly thank everyone for everything they have done and are doing for Tina, for Austin and for all of us.

Great Update from Tina’s Family-

Hi everyone,

Want to let you all know that Tina’s surgery was a success and the doctor said that everything went well. It went so well that we are all going home today and can unpack our overnight bags! Tina does have the staples in the same incision as the other three surgeries, but this surgery should be the last of that kind!!

We will be taking it easy for a few days with Mary, Austin, Rich, Megan and Craig, her Aunt Sharon and cousin, enjoying this forward progress.

Then we will go back to her day program, follow-ups with doctors here at Hopkins and her next surgery will be sometime towards the end of June.

We truly appreciate all your kind words, thoughts and prayers.

Update from Tina’s family-

As we approach the 8-month mark, Tina is scheduled to have her next major surgery early tomorrow morning at Johns Hopkins. Surgery is expected to last around 3 hours.

They will be continuing reconstructive work on both her eye areas and forehead. We will provide an update as soon as possible afterwards.

Your continued prayers and support will be greatly appreciated as always! Thank you.

Update from Tina’s family-

Just want to let everyone know that Tina continues to amaze us and is making strides every week. She will be having a few surgeries in the next couple months starting towards the end of May, and will have her prosthetic eye hopefully sometime this July.

Tina gets stronger and doing more on her own every day. She and Austin have traveled to their home in California a couple times and where they will return to this summer. Spending time with friends, going to movies, restaurants, grocery and retail shopping are just a few of the things Tina is doing. She also is part of an intense day program three days a week doing all three therapies (PT, ST, and OT) and meets with many doctors as Mary and Austin also do to help in her recovery. Tina’s team at this Hospital has been terrific.

Tina also made a 14 hour round trip car ride in two days to go to her sister Becky’s senior night for Lacrosse. Friends and family traveled from Florida, California, Colorado and Maryland for a wonderful game and an amazing and delicious dinner for 20 at her cousin, Michael’s Restaurant in Charlotte.

We will give another update before Tina’s next surgery and thank you all for your continuous messages.
