Martha's Vineyard Glassworks Recovery Fund

On the evening of February 5th, Martha's Vineyard Glassworks suffered an electrical fire, stemming from a charging lithium ion battery. Fortunately no one was injured and the structure was not damaged, but nearly everything that was in the gallery and the basement, including our product inventory and supplies were damaged.

Technology infrastructure such as computers, printers and photography equipment has been rendered un-useable. Furthermore, all of our inventory and work in progress is no longer salable.

The main goal with our fundraising effort is to be able to open for normal operations by June 2019. We have been attempting to work with our insurance company to be reimbursed for the many items that were damaged and destroyed, we are challenged with replacing the lost materials necessary to resume our glassblowing and gallery operations in a timely manner, with the quality and excellence that represents the Martha's Vineyard Glassworks brand.

The first matter of business is acquiring the colored glass that we use in our pieces. We had tens of thousands of dollars in bars and crushed up colored glass. We need to re-order as quickly as possible (and thus, far more quickly than our insurance company can allow for) in order to begin production of inventory for the upcoming season.

Secondly, we need to replace all of our technological equipment in order to run the gallery and our online sales. Our computers, printers, photo equipment and much more have been condemned as not salvageable. In order to open this season, these items must be replaced.

Next, we need to replace all of the storage units for the inventory we make. While this aspect of our store is not often seen by customers, it is vital to our organization. We need a place to safely store all of the product that is yet to be made.

Finally, we  need to pay our dedicated crew who have and will continue to work to bring the Glassworks back to a functioning level. They have spent numerous hours already cleaning, repainting and reassembling the interior of the building.
We will also need to allocate many hours for glassblowing production. The off season is when we create over half of the product that we sell over the Summer. Of course the fire has meant that much of that time has been lost. Your generous donations will help to insure that the Glassworks can recover quickly and we are able to focus our efforts into creating the inventory and operational activites necessary to start the 2019 season.

We thank you for your continued support and we will keep this page updated with our progress.

With much appreciation,

The Crew at Martha's Vineyard Glassworks
