Marsh Family Cancer Crisis Fund

Nick Marsh is a talented musician, singer and songwriter. He is lead singer with Flesh For Lulu (whose I GO CRAZY featured on the soundtrack to John Hughes' film SOME KIND OF WONDERFUL) and is the lead guitarist in The Urban Voodoo Machine . First and foremost though he is a proud father to two beautiful children and partner to Katharine Blake, also a talented singer and musician, known for her work in Mediaeval Baebes and Miranda Sex Garden.

Last March, the Marsh family received the devastating news that Nick had aggressive throat and mouth cancer. He underwent serious, invasive surgery, followed by months of radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Nick is a fighter and we had every reason to believe that Nick had beaten the cancer. Nick seemed back to himself and had begun working again. In February, just a day before his birthday, Nick and Katharine were told that Nick's cancer is back. He faces further invasive surgery and chemotherapy. Nick is unable to earn a living now as he is unable to tour. As a musician, Nick does not get sick pay. Before he got ill, Nick's other source of income was decorating houses. Due to the complexity of his first surgery, Nick's body can no longer handle the physical demands of painting and decorating.

The Marsh family faces a tough time and is at risk of eviction.  Nick's recovery would be hindered by living in a bedsit. His daughters are facing more stress than young children should bear. They too need to remain in their family home, close to friends and school.  We are raising funds to remove their immediate money worries so they can concentrate on giving Nick the rest and stability that will be so crucial in his fight for survival.

As an alternative/addition to a donation, you may prefer to buy a signed copy of Nick's solo album or pre-order Nick and Kataharine's joint project .

A year on, Nick is much missed by us all. Kat and the girls are slowly building their new lives together but there is obviously a big gap. They are grateful for all your support and kind messages, especially on this first anniversary.

A message from Katharine:

Dear Friends,

It's been a very tough year for my family, but I'm pleased to say that things are beginning to feel more positive and stable. We will be spending this Christmas in our new home which we are now settling into after two moves.
Thank you so much for your overwhelming support and generosity which has meant that we haven't had to worry about money, at least, during this tragic time.

Lots of love and merry Christmas to you all.

The sun shone on Friday as we gathered in beautiful Epping forest to wish our dear friend Nick goodbye. It was the most moving of occasions, a riot of colour, full of music, full of tears but also full of love. Thank you to everyone who was able to attend. You helped make it an incredible day. The perfect send-off for a true gent, a talented singer and musician, a great friend and fantastic father. Thank you. A big thank you to David Arnoff for letting me use this picture of the Urban Voodoo Machine (and friends) accompanying Nick on his journey into the forest. xx
A very special walk through the forest

Dear all, With less than a week until Mr Marsh's big send-off, I thought it would be worth confirming the details for the day.

First up, someone has asked if children can go to the funeral. Kat has confirmed that kids are welcome, especially Ava and Rosa's friends, but space will be limited in the ceremonial hall so please do bear that in mind.

Given limited seating is available, family and close friends should be seated first. We are sure you will all understand.

Nick was a stylish, colourful guy. Please dress fabulously - strictly, no all black!

Date and time: Friday 3rd July, 2pm (expected to last approximately 2 hours)

Venue: Greenacres Woodland Burials, Kiln Road, North Weald, Epping, Essex CM16 6AD (roughly 5 minutes drive from Epping Underground station, you may want to check for details of local cab offices).

Please share this information with anyone you think may not get this update or have seen the details on Facebook.

I am truly upset to hear of Nick's passing. I knew he was battling with the cancer, but I lost touch for a minute. I just read the news of his passing three days ago, and although I'd never even met him, I feel a strange sense of sorrow and lament. Flesh For Lulu were/are one of the great bands of the 80-90-02 I could go on about this in great detail! I've been making music since the mid 80's and own and operate a studio here in America. I would have loved to been able to work with Nick!! Nick stayed true to his brand of music! I will certainly be happy to donate to the cause of his family and memory. Long Live the memory of Nick Marsh!

My condolences to family, and friends. Saw Nick with the VoodooMachine, then clocked him watching the Black Star Riders later that evening at Minehead. I was in awe of such a cool dude, a free spirit following his own path, we spoke, and I said I hoped to see him next time he plays Bristol. I'm so sad this won't come to be, I'm privileged to have met one of the good guys. Love and Peace to you all x
