Mark's Prosthesis Cost

$7,574 of $10,000 goal

On October 4th 2017, I was diagnosed with Osteogenic Sarcoma, a type of bone cancer. The same type that Terry Fox had, actually.
Due to the size, aggression, and location of the tumour however, I lost my right leg and now need a prosthetic (I have a few more months to go in order to get it, as my leg/stump needs to heal/shrink first).

A prosthetic leg can cost anywhere from $9,000 to $100,000+ in Canada, and even though I'm getting some help from the government to pay for it, there's still a long way to go to cover that cost.

If you want to help, but can't afford to donate, please check out Terry Fox's story at  http://www.terryfox.org, it's incredibly inspiring and the Marathon of Hope needs to continue. Even telling your friends about it, or organizing a run in your area and donating to charity that way is a great way to help the cause.

Thanks for reading and checking out my project, I really appreciate it.
Sincerely, Mark Steel.

Hey everyone, I wanted to update you all on things!

Yesterday I saw and used the prosthetic, it felt really weird but really good! It's at the hospital right now (it's not sick) at the physio centre, so I'm hopefully going to get video of me actually walking around with it soon!

Thank you again so so so much, words can't express how grateful I am for this.

Hello friends, I'm writing to let you know that through the kindness of people like yourselves, you've all helped me reach my goal of $10,000. As you may know, prosthetics can be very expensive, so this has helped me more than you can ever imagine and I wanted to give you all a heartfelt thank you for it.

In a way, it doesn't seem like it's enough to just say "thanks," which is why I'm going to run across Peterborough when I'm all done chemotherapy to raise money for cancer research. I haven't worked out all the logistics yet, like where to start, but I think the foundation will be Canadian Cancer Society.

After Peterborough, I'll be running other nearby cities like Lindsay and eventually Toronto, but until then I'll be finishing up chemo, training when I'm physically able, and I'll even upload a video of me walking with my prosthetic when I get it.

It still blows my mind to have all of this incredible support, and I wish I could form enough words to emphasize how grateful I am. I'll talk to you again on the 16th (I think) when I get the leg.

Hey everyone, just a quick update on why I raised the goal! I saw the prosthesist today and he gave me a quote for a running leg, and that's an estimated $19,126.
Since you've already given me more than I asked for last time I'd feel bad if I asked for much more, but every bit helps.
Thank you again, so so much! God bless you all!

Hey friends, I just set up my mom as a beneficiary, so now she is able to withdraw the funds from this campaign!
I'll be giving you all a video update in the coming days to elaborate on what I plan on doing in the future and what my plans are after I get my leg, but basically I'm going to start training for lots of running and cardio in general! I'm really looking forward to the future, thank you all so much. God bless all of you!
