Mark's Health Recovery Fund

My name is Mark Muhammad.  Some of you may remember me from our college days as Mark Spencer.  I have a medical condition that has left me on “total and permanent” disability since March of 2005.

What Happened
In late 2001, through lab tests ordered by a physician, I discovered I had heavy metal poisoning.  Heavy metals are those metals that are toxic to the system, such as lead, mercury, arsenic, and nickel, all of which I had at high levels.  Although my health was compromised, I was still able to work.  In 2004, I was exposed to an industrial strength cleaning solution, in use by the janitors at the college where I was employed.  The solution, however, was being used at full strength, instead of being diluted, as it should have been.  That toxic substance, in addition to the lead, mercury, arsenic, and nickel already in my body, began a downward spiral.  My health condition began to deteriorate rapidly.  Almost exactly one year later, I was on “total and permanent disability”.

How it Affects Me
I suffer from chronic fatigue, muscle weakness, constant (24/7) ringing in my ears, bruxism (grinding my teeth), hypersensitivity to all things aromatic (cologne, perfume, air fresheners, exhaust fumes, etc.), and brain fog (which results in the inability to think clearly and process information).  When I am exposed to perfume, for example, I experience all of the symptoms above, plus headache and chest pain.

The fatigue leaves me unable to be productive throughout the day.  However, the most frustrating consequence of my condition is the brain fog.  I cannot think clearly, and consistently process information well, whether through hearing, seeing, or reading.  The hypersensitivity is a close second.  I often abruptly leave the library, for example, or other public spaces when someone’s perfume, or janitorial cleaning chemicals, or air fresheners trigger brain fog, headaches and chest pains.  In the worst situations I am left short of breath as if having an asthma attack.  These environmental exposures, which represent only minor annoyances for most, consistently sap my strength, often for days at a time.

The Treatment
The recommended treatment is chelation therapy, which is an intravenous therapy, for the removal of heavy metals.  I did chelation therapy, for approximately 6 months and a detoxification program for approximately 3 months.  My latest lab work shows that the amount of arsenic, lead, and nickel are down significantly.  However, the level of mercury remains very high.  I have made significant progress, but need to continue the therapy.

How You Can Help
Thus far, with the help of family, I have spent over $10,000.  The insurance companies won’t cover the treatment because they consider it outside of mainstream medicine.  Yet they don’t have a treatment within mainstream medicine to help my condition.  I am seeking help to raise another $10,000 to finish the removal of the heavy metals and other toxic substances, and get me back on my feet.  My income is limited to a very modest monthly disability check, which is insufficient to cover my living expenses, let alone medical expenses.  Therefore I have had to depend on loans to cover the shortfall.  The funds requested will cover the health/medical expenses to help me recover.

 When Help is Needed
In the last two years I have been to the emergency room four times, and made numerous trips to urgent care facilities and doctors’ offices.  I have had all of the cardiac tests, including cardiac catheterization, to rule out any problems with my heart.  My physician believes that all of my symptoms are a result of the heavy metals in my body, especially mercury.  Mercury settles in the brain, the heart, and the kidneys, and is extremely difficult to remove.  For me, it is an urgent issue that I get the mercury out of my system.  I have begun my journey to health recovery.  In order not to interrupt the journey, I need to receive funds as soon as possible.

I am determined to change this narrative.  I have never lost hope in this battle to restore my health, and work again.  I am encouraged, for recently I have had indirect communication with two others whose conditions were similar to mine, heavy metal poisoning with almost identical symptoms.  Each has recovered to such a degree that they were able to return to work.  I am also heartened by other cases that have been successfully resolved.  I realize that I need help and I have to set aside my pride, humble myself and ask for help.  So, to all of my Omega brothers, N.O.I. family and friends who have the ability to help, I humbly ask for your help.  Please donate whatever you can afford, toward the goal of $10K, and please forward the link to others that you think might be able to help.  Whatever you can do, large or small, I am grateful.  And to those who would like to donate, but have not the means, I thank you nonetheless.  Thank you all for taking the time to read my story and for considering my request.  I am grateful.

Sincerely,
Mark Muhammad
