Thank you for visting this page Mark is battling with, what doctors have labelled, terminal lung cancer, this is his story:-
I am 60 years old and have had a good healthy life, I just don’t feel ready to go just yet. I sincerely hope that with the help of those touched by my story, my family, friends and loved ones, the funds needed for a potentially life saving treatment can be raised. Time is of the essence.
Some weeks ago. I was feeling perfectly well, fit and healthy. Working full time for a renewable energy company, going to the gym once a week and enjoying flying lessons.’
The universe had other plans. Life was about to be unexpectedly turned on its head.
I began to cough excessively, feel breathless climbing stairs and generally feel tired. Really breathless. I just put it down to a bit of stress and the after effects of my encounter with cancer two years ago.
Following one painful night I went to my doctor who referred me to my local hospital for tests, to find that there were some suspicious shadows in the lung area.
The bad news was that I have been diagnosed with lung cancer, stage 3B advanced. In the doctor’s opinion, that means it's terminal, not curable, not operable . A fairly brutal and bleak diagnosis but one I am determined to challenge.
My priority is getting fit and and strong, so that I can help others to help themselves and benefit from treatements that are not being offerd here. I intend to keep on going and defy expectation.
After much research, I have found there are incredible breakthroughs being made in the field of immunotherapy and integrative medicine, which are seeing patients with previously 'incurable' cancers going into complete remission. The Hallwang clinic near Stuttgart is one of the leaders in this field. The downside is that these cutting edge treatments aren't yet available to all on the NHS and the treatments are extremely expensive.
Due to the magnitude of the costs and difficult personal circumstances, I am resorting to fundraising here.
I am looking to raise the money to visit the Hallwang clinic in Germany and help towards the costs of the treatment to gain the best possible chance of survival and to thrive. This is an initial target for the first two visits and rounds of treatment, depending on the effectiveness of the response, more visits are likey to be needed and costs may rise quite considerably.
