Marin Oaks Meditation Room

Leadership Novato (LN) is a leadership program organized by the Novato Chamber of Commerce that encourages leadership and service throughout the city. As part of the program, LN students adopt a community project that has been submitted to the Chamber. Kessa Early, an 11-year administrator at Hill Education Center, submitted a project to the Chamber this year for a renovated Mindful Meditation Room for Marin Oaks High School. 

Marin Oaks High School is a two-time awarded Model Continuation School for the State of California, with approximately 80 students.

Mindful meditation is a recent program that has shown a positive impact on the school environment by teaching young adults a method of maintaining calm. While mindful meditation is a newer concept in schools,  it has demonstrated better academic performance and has resulted in a 75% decrease in suspensions. 

Marin Oaks students meditate for 5 minutes at the beginning of each day. There are two meditation teachers who lead an enrichment course twice a week, at the start and finish of each day. Currently the room has been put together with materials on hand and a few donated items. Due to budget constraints, Marin Oaks has not been able to properly renovate the dedicated meditation room.

With your help, our Novato Leadership Team (Pacheco)  will work towards making this renovation a reality.  Our goal is to complete the project by May 1, 2018
