Mariessa Pinto's Olympic Dream

I gained interest in archery at the age of 9 and started shooting through a local community run program. I took a liking to the sport and shot my first competition as soon as I could. Immediately after, I fell in love with the competition and began my journey into high-performance archery.
Eleven years later, I have climbed my way from winning provincial titles to national titles to attending my first international event as part of the Canadian Senior National team. As my last season competing as a Junior, I finished ranked as the number one Junior and placed in the top 3 Senior Women from across the country. This presented me with the opportunity to attend a national training camp at Papendal in the Netherlands along with PanAm Championships in Medellin, Columbia. Both these events acted as stepping stones for reaching my goal of making the Tokyo 2020 Olympic team. Alongside training, I balance a part-time job to cover competition expenses and full-time school at Simon Fraser University in British-Colombia.
The reality of my recent successes will entail me attending more major events in the 2019 season. Those being a Continental qualifier for PanAm Games in Chile (April), World Championships in the Netherlands (June) and Pan Am Games in Lima, Peru (August). I have decided to start a GoFundMe in hopes of raising $8000 for the upcoming season. This will go a long way in helping me attain my Olympic goal as it will help offset the costs of competition, travel and equipment.
