Marc's Memorial

Hello. Two years ago  I suffered what's probably a parents worst nightmare. My youngest son Marc was murdered in Portland, OR! The night it happened I made a vow to him, 'Marc, your mom won't let you down, I'm going on a journey with you to get justice.' I had to put aside my fear of death and murder, and wait for good to come out of the tragedy!

At first it seemed a group of guys had attacked Marc but we later found out the whole thing was a terrible tragedy, a case of mixed signals, not a drug deal or robbery gone wrong. In order to make sense out of my grief & shock I started a blog called marcsjustice.com.  I wanted to honor Marc's memory but also track his case for family and friends.

While we were in great shock and pain, it was also imperative we pray for the suspects. Even though a parent feels so angry after something so horrible as murder, it's wasn't mine or my family's desire to show revenge to the suspects. I definitely wanted 'justice' for my son, and God showed up in many ways by giving us the best Detectives, best D.A.  And we were so blessed in that 2 suspects were caught very soon, they were recently homeless youth, ages 18 & 20.

As the case wound down, the defendants admitted guilt and told me at sentencing how sorry they were, (the crime was a true confused matter.) At the main defendants sentencing I wanted Marc to play a role so I played a voice mail where he was wishing me well and saying how good God was. It was played on the news that night,  I was so pleased that Marc got to say a farewell message to the people of Portland!

I’m seeking your financial assistance as a couple things have been growing out of Marc’s legacy! I’ve forgiven and befriended the defendants, and share them in my blog.  I'm the  author of a screenplay called 'Saralicia's Sojourne'. I'm writing another script to share my sons story with a backdrop of what's gong on in our society with at-risk teens. .

I've got the blessing of some professionals in Portland, pastors as well as a growing list educators, writers,  At some time I plan to share in churches, schools a story of hope and forgiveness to teens in schools and churches. I’ve become gripped by the epidemic of ‘at risk’ youths in our country, even from 'nice' homes! I’ll share with teens how I got the courage to face death & murder, how nothing is too hopeless for God to make right. I’ll also provide a list of resources for teens who're feeling overwhelmed by life.  I’ve been a preschool Director/teacher for 20 years, and I know youth like interaction and real life sharing as learning tools. The lesser defendant said he’d go to schools with me, which will be a great help!

Please ask yourself if my GoFundMe drive is the right place for you to sow into! Read marcsjustice.com, and decide for yourself if what I share rings a bell in your heart? It’s still so incredibly unbelievable the crime happened!  I miss Marc so much! But I'm so fortunate to have ways to share our family experience and create something poossitive for others to grow from, it's one of the things that keeps me going!

I told Marc at the beginning,  ‘this isn’t over, sweetheart!’ And so over 2 years later I have faithfully shared the legacy of healing in the face of death …. forgiveness in the face of murder. Won’t you join me on this journey?

Thank you so much, Diane De Han (Marc's mother)
