Dear Friends,
As many of you know, I have had the honor to serve as the Bowie City Council Member from District 1 for the last eight years. I want to let you know that I have decided to run for the At-Large Bowie City Council seat which will become vacant this fall.
Historically, the At-Large seats - which represent the entire city -- have been held by the most experienced members of Council, those who have served with distinction, run successful campaigns and lost sleep over the difficult decisions that have kept our city among the highest rated of all American cities. I have paid these dues, gained the critical experience necessary, and believe I have served with grace and honor. I, therefore, ask for your support as I launch this new campaign.
I was born and raised in Bowie, and am now raising my own kids here. I first ran for the city council out of a love for, and concern about, Bowie. Since being elected to the city council in 2007, I have gained a wealth of experience, and have helped bring Bowie to the strong position it now enjoys.
Over the past eight years I have been an advocate for conservative budgets, smart growth, public safety and most importantly, the city's greatest asset, our children. From supporting local sports programs and facilities, to expressing concerns about education, (such as keeping Bowie children in Bowie schools), I have been an important voice for our city.
As many of know, I have been very successful as a small business owner. I have used all that I have learned in 36 years as a restaurant owner (TJ Elliott's , The Original Ledos ) and a founder of the Corporate Franchise Company Ledo Pizza systems, to help Bowie grow in the best way possible. My experience in negotiating leases, loans, real estate and controlling expenses and payroll has allowed me to have a real impact on the last eight budgets our city has produced.
I ask that you join the many city, county and state elected officials who support me in my campaign to fill the At-Large seat in November. I look forward to having the honor of serving our great city and its people in this new capacity.
