Low-income college student in need of a computer!

Hello everyone!
My name is Lizbeth Oquita and I am currently a sophomore at Smith College. I made this gofundme because my best friend Marcela Rodrigues is facing and has continuously faced financial struggles. Marcela, a senior at Smith, is a queer immigrant from Brazil who is currently in the midst of a pending Asylum case. Thus, Marcela is unauthorized to work, and without support from her family, she remains without a steady source of income. That’s why, when her computer started malfunctioning she began to panic. Marcela was mugged and had her computer stolen in the summer of 2018. She then bought a used computer, which now has stopped working.
As a student, a laptop is essential, especially if you are taking classes that require specific software programs (Marcela is currently taking an advanced research seminar that requires R Studio). Marcela is the most hard working student I have met and her financial situation has added so much unnecessary stress. She is currently writing a senior thesis and applying for PhD programs in Social Psychology. The computer I hope she will buy with the money raised in this campaign will help her throughout her senior year and her graduate school career.
I made this gofundme on her behalf because as low-income students we tend to internalize a lot of shame for not being financially stable. Yet, many of us know that it is not so much the individual to blame but the structural inequality in our economic and political system. If you are a student, or are a former student, you know how stressful and overwhelming it can be completing an undergraduate degree. It is especially stressful if you have to constantly be worried about finances.
If donation through this website does not work for you, please Vemno her @Marcela-RG.
Please help out my friend if you can! Any donations are greatly appreciated!
