O Museum in The Mansion: Building Social Harmony

From gender, to politics, to religion, to race — the world is more divided today than it has ever been. It seems we have lost the ability to humanize one another. Studies show that compassion is easiest felt when we have a sense of commonality with others. O Museum in The Mansion (a 501c3 in Washington, DC)  imagines a world where kindness and understanding is the rule. Offering guests the opportunity to explore themselves, engage with others, and experience how we can each be unique and similar at the same time. Whether it is finding synchrony in a beat, connecting with another’s story or being moved by an image — these commonalities and shared experiences create bonds of empathy for one another that can be brought out into the world to proliferate compassion and bridge the divide.

For over 40 years we have been doing just that but as a non-profit that puts everything back into our life-affirming programs like Artists and Hero in Residences (our first ever Hero in residence was Civil rights activist Mrs. Rosa Parks. She lived here for free for over 10 years) we are finding it difficult to keep up with the costs.  The truth is, our much loved beautiful period home is over 125 years old and lately we've been struggling with the cost it takes to keep it looking its best. Add on our astronomical energy bills and we find ourselves in need of your support!

In order to step boldly into the future, we need to make big changes — like replacing parts of the roof, masonry, and windows ... and exploring alternative energy sources.

Your contributions are invaluable...they will help pave the way to a more sustainable future, and that will leave more money for us to complete our higher purpose...and help us to remain a sanctuary to all those in need of creative inspiration...including of course...you!
