Helping Mothers and Babies Survive

$11,145 of $30,000 goal

Raised by 81 people in 9 months

Manos de Ramon Foundation (MDR) is an NGO committed to training local health care providers in Latin America using American Academy of Pediatrics and WHO sponsored programs.  We are unique in that we partner closely with the Ministry of Health and other local groups to deliver education and follow up at each site.  We believe that improving maternal-infant mortality involves a sustained effort requiring patience and small incremental change to practice.

Our current major initiative is in Santiago, Dominican Republic.  The Dominican Republic has one of the highest infant mortality rates in Latin America, despite widespread access to care.  Our ongoing work implementing training in Helping Babies Survive and Helping Mothers Survive programs is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of mothers and infants in the Dominican Republic.

All funds collected will be dedicated towards ongoing training and follow-up of these maternal-infant programs, in addition to on-site quality improvement education.  Our goal is engagement and empowerment of local providers and program SUSTAINABILITY.

Please help support this initiative! All donations are tax deductible (use EIN: 81-5082461 and DLN number: 26053416001048
). Anything you can give will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks to all of your support, MDR has been busy at work!! Here is a photo from a recent HBB training run by the fantastic Wanny Roa, a local pediatric provider from Santiago who is our new MDR representative and Ministry of Health Liason. Your funds help to support her work to follow up, evaluate, and conduct maternal/infant care trainings.

Future plans:
• April site visits and trainings in HMS-preventing post-partum hemorrhage.
• Four excited EVMS students as part of their summer scholars program will be spending their time in Santiago doing follow up, training and evaluation. One of them will be focusing on evaluating infant sleep education/behaviors as part of an international multi-site study.

If it weren't for all of your support, none of this would be possible. Thank you again and spread the word to those who haven't yet been introduced to our foundation!

Hello everyone, we are so excited to announce we are 1/3 of the way to our fundraising goal!!! For those of you who have donated, THANK YOU!!

Thanks to your generosity:
1. We have a training team on the ground RIGHT NOW, consisting of physicians (both US and Dominican), medical students, and volunteers working on follow- up baby resuscitation training in each of our health care facilities.
2. We are now able to support a local Santiago-based pediatrician to work on continued implementation of trainings and supporting quality improvement at each hospital.
3. We are supporting a US-based medical student to continue to work on reinforcing current training and responding to local needs for new training for the upcoming YEAR!

Please check back for new photos from this week's trainings.

If you haven't donated, please consider doing so as each $ has a direct impact on the lives of mothers, infants, and their providers in the Dominican Republic.

Also, if you haven't already checked it out, read about one of the Manos de Ramon founders in the following magazine article:

We are blown away by all the support over the past few days! We want to thank everyone who has helped us reach our first milestone in fundraising. We hope that with your continued support and sharing of the campaign, we can raise funds for supplies to help each of our partner facilities in the DR with quality improvement and continued resuscitation and newborn training— specifically tele-coaching and Quality Improvement methodology training to improve targeted outcomes. Each donation brings us one step closer to these educational goals!
