City Kid Farm Trip - Fund a Child!

Donation protected
How many 10 and 11 year-olds do you know who would be disappointed to hear they might not have the chance to get up at 6:30am to do farm chores?

Well, we know 26 of them!
They are the 5th graders at the J.P. Manning School in Boston.

When you hear bad news...
For the past five years I have been fortunate to be able to take our 5th grade class on a week long trip to Vermont... but this year we are left without a spot at our usual, funded program. Although we are glad that schools who have never had the opportunity before will be able to go, our students were broken-hearted by the news.

...you have to look for solutions!
We've found another educational farm program, East Hill Farm School , located in Troy, NH. However, it's up to us to find the funds for our trip.

We need your help!
Our 5th grade students are hard-working and eager to earn your support.

What do we need to pay for?

$125 per kid/night (includes lodging, lessons, all meals)
$2100 (approx) for transportation to/from the farm
$25 per kid for a Shutterfly photo book of our experience
$500 for "farm gear" for kids who do not have rainboots, shoes to hike in, or other gear needed

** * PLEASE NOTE: The goal amount has been adjusted to include the cost of a photo book for each child (what we usually fundraise for when the trip cost is covered) and any gear/supplies that kids need to attend ***

Initially we also wanted to fundraise for each child to receive a photo book to remember the trip (which we usually make when the trip is funded), but the kids have already declared this would be excessive.  They want funders to know that we are asking only for the opportunity to experience this trip - nothing more. (This is why our original goal was $14,500).

This trip is transformational for our students.
Many of them have already endured challenges that few of us could overcome with such resilience.
A few examples of this trip's impact:
* A student whose brother had recently been murdered helped her mother brave having her (the 5th grader) spend time away, and they both found new hope through this reminder that not all of the world is a scary place.
* A student who spent Christmas in foster care was able to find a sense of belonging at the farm; he took care of the animals and named a new sense of independence.
* Students who have never slept away from home build a new understanding of how supportive a team can be and that taking risks can result into big rewards.

Below is a video of a young girl who, at the beginning of 5th grade, swore up and down that she'd rather not try than fail at something.  In this video, on our farm trip in the spring of 5th grade, you can hear her say, "I always finish what I start," after being kicked by a newborn heifer and not wanting to give up trying to feed her.

We need you to donate. Now.

If we are going to be able to go on this trip, we need to secure funding by March 4th
Otherwise we will have to give up our reservation.
