Parents Grieving The Loss Of Infants

$6,020 of $9,000 goal

Raised by 151 people in 33 months
Over 23,000 infants die in the United States every year, 11,300 of them die on the day that they were born. Make a donation today in memory of a baby or child you've loved that has died too young. In doing so, you'll help some of the who are going through the worst tragedy imaginable.

Losing a child isn't something that anyone should have to experience, ever. What makes matters worse is that when a baby dies, often times mothers, fathers and family have a less than positive experience in the hospital, grieving their sweet baby.

A Cuddlecot System is a small, but highly impactful thing we can do as a community to allow an opportunity for parents to have a better experience, creating an environment that is supportive of loving memories in the hospital. The Cuddlecot allows for the baby to remain in the room with the parents for up to three days, avoiding decomposition and painful memories of their sweet baby in a body bag, or the morgue, and even the pain of just having to wait for someone to bring their baby up from the morgue.

Grieving parents deserve the time to grieve in a way that is the quickest and most comfortable as possible, as everything around them will become uncomfortable.

While working with Jennifer Reisner, the bereavement coordinator for Banner Desert and Banner Cardon's Children's Medical Center - They have one Cuddlecot system that was donated recently which they have actively used 4+ times monthly since. Banner Desert has multiple infant losses on a monthly basis due to the severity of high risk deliveries and NICU services they offer. During our discussion, she believes that this may be the ONLY Cuddlecot in use in all of Arizona. There are two other Banner hospitals that are categorized as Level 3 facilities, (Banner University Medical Center - Phoenix, formerly known as Good Sam downtown and Banner Thunderbird) and they are in desperate need for at least one Cuddlecot system for each of these hospitals. Each of these hospitals work with the sickest moms, most fragile babies, and highest risk deliveries- they need this medical equipment, and we need your help to get it to them.

Each device costs $2764.00.
On behalf of the Midnight Mammacitas, please consider helping us reach our 2016 - 2017 fundraising goal of supplying these two hospitals with the grieving devices they need.

All funds will be directly donated to Banner with specific instructions for where the funds should be allocated. There is a great warranty that comes with the device and this will ensure that the hospital will receive all benefits of purchase.

Thank you!

Supporters,
I wanted to make sure you knew of three things about the withdrawals.
1. I am not related or connected to Banner except as a donor.
2. I am withdrawing the funds into an account to be donated all at one time.
3. All the funds will be gathered and donated to banner, and they will purchase the Cuddlecots. I plan to make the full donation by the end of January, if not earlier.

We hope to have enough for three, and the donation of 500 dollars today, helps us get there.

As I committed when originally starting the fund, I plan to make a significant donation, that will be eligible for company matching.

If you are eligible for company matching, please email me directly at abigail.spahich@gmail.com.

How cool would it be if your gift was doubled and your employer donated to our cause!?

Thanks for all of your hard work, but don't stop now!

These families need more time to say goodbye. It might be just 12 hours, 72 hours or somewhere in between.

Help us give them more time.

Xoxo,
Abby

Supporters,
We have done an awesome job of gaining strength in the news, and amongst our friends. Please continue to share this cause, as that's the best visibility there is!

We haven't had any donations now for three days, and we are still about two thousand dollars away from our third bassinet...

Butterflies represent babies that passed

When I arrived at the hospital today, to shoot a news segment for Channel 12 on the Cuddlecot fundraiser, Jennifer Reisner met me at labor and delivery.

It was such an adventure being around the boasting moms, the moms doing the hospital walk - awaiting baby's arrival... she met me with the Cuddlecot, and pushed it to our little resting spot, where we'd film the segment.

Our "resting spot" was the bereavement room. A cold room. A room of solitude, of grief, and of transition. A respected place, one that I've been lucky enough not to experience before today.

It's a room filled with butterflies, a few rocking bassinets, a sofa, table and chairs, and beautiful pictures of babies that were once with us, and now are not.

The butterflies were beautiful, and when I looked closer I saw that they were named and dated. Most of the dates were just one day, or two, some spanning as much as three weeks or more... each of them were reflective of a babies journey to freedom, or signifying to many that their spirit is still with us. A reminder of all the sweet babies, that didn't make it. Babies that were 23 weeks and not big enough for the medical equipment, babies that were very sick, or babies that had physical abnormalities that weren't compatible with life...

Today, I ask that you to be thankful for the amazing kids you have if you have any, the friends you have, and the families you have.

These families need more time to say goodbye. It might be just 12 hours, 72 hours or somewhere in between.

Help us give them more time.

Xoxo,
Abby
