Mama's Pizza Security Camera Fund
$4,315 of $800 goal
Mama helps non-profits feed their families and children and much more, despite having limited resources.
With that all being said, her business has still been robbed five times this year. And Wednesday night--
the most resent robbery--was all we as a community should take without helping this wonderful lady.
She needs help with installing a full camera system and assistance purchasing a computer monitoring.
She is the only eatery without a security camera and refusses to let fear seperate us with plexiglas.
Therefore, she is the one business that continues to get robbed. We ask you to make a generous contribution as part of the D.C. Comm-Unity.
My name is Ronald Moten and I'm a friend of Fatma Nayir, the owner of Mama's Pizza. All Funds will be used to purchase equipment needed to install her security camera system. Any remaning funds will be used to compensate her for monies lost during five previous robberiesshe has endured.
Also, we hope you can join us at Mama's Pizza this Sunday as the community shows how much we appreciate her by patronizing here business.
As you have seen in the Washington Post, City Paper andseveral other media outlets, she is very grateful for the community wrapping it's arms around her bussiness.
We thank you for all your support!
Mama's Pizza Hold Press Conference Today To
Thank The Community As Security System Is Installed. She Will Be Joined By The Donors and Deputy Mayor Courtney Snowden
Washington, D.C. On Wednesday October 21st, 2:00p.m. There will be a press conference held at Mama's Pizza on 2028 Martin Luther king Jr. Avenue S.E.
As reported by many media sources, Mama's Pizza was robbed five times this year and is one of the few businesses who could not afford a alarm and camera system to deter such crime or help bring those who commit such crime to justice.
Mama's Pizza is owned by Fatima Nayir who is known as Mama by many in the Downtown Anacostia community and she is the face of this small business who only over the last year started to gain consistent business after five years East of the River.
Mama's pizza is known by their community for its commitment and love for the community by hiring six staff from the Ward, Putting love into good food, public service and building a solid relationship with the community which has enhanced because of her refusal to install a Plexiglas as other businesses have after numerous robberies.
Local activist Ron Moten saw Mama outside with police after the fifth robbery last Wednesday and said the community must do something because we recently lost another caring business because it was fed up with being robbed. Moten said "as citizens we cannot let another good business be forced out of our community by a few bad apples." He would go on to set up a Go Fund Me page with a goal to raise $800 to help install a camera system and it was raised less than 17 hours. We are also happy to report 100 donations later, which ranged from $10 from one of the many everyday people who are challenged by budget constraints to $500 from a police officer who cared and called Mama of Mama's Pizza a warrior when she sent her donation.
Also, we are proud to announce AWASH & Associates, a local ward 7 business came to the rescue and will be sending several technicians out at 7:30 am today to install the equipment and will sponsor the monitoring fee for a year.
This amazing response from the comm-UNITY will not only help install the camera's needed, but it will also allow a security system, T.V. for customers and remaining monies will be given to Mama at press conference to compensate her for lost revenue due to the five robberies.
Therefore, Mama and staff ask those who support their business and those who donated to the Go Fund Me fund to join her so she can thank everybody.
Also Deputy Mayor of Greater Economic Development Courtney Snowden will also attend to thank Mama's Kitchen for hanging on during hard times and the community for rallying around those who invest in our community with a commitment to support the community through their action as Mama's Pizza has done over the last five years.
We will invite the community out for the delivery of the check and security equipment installation ribbon cutting which was made possible because of the generous support from the community.
Our completed mission has brought joy to a woman who was on the short end of the stick from being robbed 5 times in one year, to being on the winning team of over 100 people who donated helping us raise 5 times the $800 goal we were seeking.
This really shows how great DC can be when we unite as a city as we witnessed people contribute from all 8 wards, especially East of the River.
We can not let this be the end of great people working together because even though we live in a great city , we still have many challenges that only great people can help us overcome.
In closing, remember negative things happen when positive people do nothing. We can no longer afford to reside and be residents, we must continue to be citizens who practice the art of citizenship.
Mama's Pizza Kitchen is the only food establishment in Anacostia that doesn't shield itself behind plexiglass from the community it serves. They have embraced us and we love them for it. Moreover, they were the only place that hired African-Americans from the community to work behind the counter and in the kitchen. When was the last time you saw that in Ward 8 or anywhere else in this city? So I along with my constituents stand with these owners in declaring that the evil-doers who robbed them will not prevail in running them away. In fact, they have brought us closer in our resolve to rid the community of those who wish to do us harm.
