A Seat at The Table

"Mamaleelu Moves on Up" is the title of this campaign.  Who of a certain age does not remember singing along to this catchy tune from the sitcom The Jeffersons? George Jefferson was the epitome of the American Dream. He started with nothing and built a successful enterprise, which helped him and his family live a better life.

My name is Maliesha Pullano and I am the owner and operator of Mamaleelu Cold Brew LLC, Mamaleelu is a woman owned/black owned business that was started with a grant in 2014 and has since continued to grow.  I produce a bottled concentrated cold brew coffee which is sold in a few retail outlets.

You can hear about my beginnings here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=wn3RRRl0Y9U

As many a small business owner knows, it takes years to actually make a profit and start making a salary, in the mean time we all need to be able to support ourselves.
My solution to supporting myself and my family as my business grows?  Create another one of course!

The money that I raise in this campaign will go to help me open up a small coffee kiosk in Kalamazoo, MI.  The kiosk will be in a well established location, and will serve cold brew coffee, espresso style drinks i.e lattes, mochas etc.  We will also serve sandwiches and quick breakfast options.   I will pay myself a small wage in order to make ends meet, and as my other business grows I will add an employee or two.
To make this opportunity a reality, I need a few things to help me get started.  The funds will be used to get the proper licenses ($700), a required three compartment sink ($1000), misc equipment ($600), signage ($300)and security deposit ($400).  Whew!  With your financial support and my work equity,  we can add to the story of the successful American Dreamer!

I know it has been awhile since my last update. Whew, I've been busy! My car is working again, I passed the two tests needed to get my food service license, and I have started "construction" on my space! If all goes well I will open on March 15th! You all will be the first to know! Thank you all again. I have been bursting with gratitude for weeks now!~Maliesha

Soooo, today as I was running errands in order to open Mamaleelu On the Mall, my car died (most probably the starter). My very first reaction was to shrug my shoulders, laugh, and say "of course"!. When you live on the fringes of financial security, you know and are always mentally prepared for something to go wrong. It is protective to imagine what you will do if despite all your efforts, things try to fall apart. Three weeks ago, things were falling apart for me and then an opportunity presented itself, despite me not knowing how I would make it happen I firmly stated that it would...and then I asked for help. Now is no different. I will still open Mamaleelu On the Mall, it will be a successful venture, and I will do so despite this little hiccup. Also I will ask for your help. If you are able to contribute time, money, or moral support I will gratefully accept!
If there is one thing I know about myself it is that I persist! #shepersisted
Love to you all!
With laughter in my heart,
~Maliesha

Today was the day!! I signed my lease! I want to be open for business on March 15th. Three weeks ago, I had no idea that I would be expanding Mamaleelu Cold Brew, by opening a walk-up coffee and sandwich shop. Thank you all for helping me on this journey. I still have a few things on my needs list. So if you have been thinking about donating, it's not too late!! Every dollar is appreciated!!
With gratitude
