Making Movement Matter in Glasgow

Movement Park - Glasgows first Multi-Disciplined Movement Space

Movement Park (as the name suggests) is all about getting children and adults in Glasgow moving, enhancing the lives of the local community. Part of our ethos is crossing over activities to give practitioners a rounded understanding of different movement vocabulary. We aim to improve the physical literacy of everyone who comes through, hopefully allowing practitioners to explore new activities confidently and ultimately sharing their skill in a safe and progressive environment.

Based in our converted warehouse in Whiteinch, Movement Park will offer a wide range of different classes, workshops and events including activities such as Mindful Movement, Judo, Parkour, Dance, Yoga, Meditation, Running, Table Tennis, Boccia, Frisbee, Juggling, Kendama and more.

With developing an inclusive programme, we want to create a strong community that is welcoming for all. We want to encourage the community to stay active for life and to recognise that physical literacy and movement are as important as any other skill taught in school.

Thanks to external funding from  SportScotland, Awards For All and Robertson Trust, we have been able to start an outreach programme with local schools. So far our coaches have been teaching at schools such as Hyndland Primary, Thornwood Primary, St. Pauls Primary and Corpus Christi Primary School. During school time, our coaches would teach 6 - 13 classes a day with the main focus on getting the kids moving and physical literate. And not forgetting the fun!
For the future we hope to work closely with local schools, getting more and more children involved with movement and physical literacy.

With our Movement Park Camp during the October week, we had the opportunity to deliver various activities to a fantastic group of children over the course of five days. Through teaching Judo, Parkour, Boccia and Mindful Movement, we were able to give the kids an understanding of different themes such as coordination & control, balance, timing & rhythm and pushing & pulling. Rounding the week off with a Free Fun Friday, the kids had the chance to play with frisbees, juggling balls, balloons and hop scotch.

We are planning to open our new multi-disciplined facility in early Spring 2017!

With securing money from SportScotland, Awards For All and Robertson Trust, we are getting close to this goal. However, we are still in need of funding towards:

-        Refurbishing our warehouse and classrooms
-        Fitting the facility out with equipment such as Judo mats and Boccia sets
-        Building an outdoor Parkour Park
-        Legal fees and insurance

We and our whole team are really excited about this project and we believe it could become a great space for all and a hub for Movement communities in Glasgow.
