The journey to have baby Cain

Our amazing friends Josh and Cali were married in June of 2017.  They live their lives serving others, Josh as a Sheriff Deputy and Cali as a nanny.  Their dream has always been to have a family of their own.  On October 1st 2017, they attended Route 91 and ended the night running for their lives like so many others.  Life after that night was stressful and Cali began noticing pain in her back. She believed it was from an old injury and stress from the night of the attack.

A few months passed and Cali ended up in the emergency room because the pain was unbearable. That night she had emergency surgery and found out she had fibroids in her abdomen. This was the first step of understanding why they hadn’t become pregnant yet. They scheduled surgery to remove the fibroids but a few weeks went by and she was in so much pain they went back to the hospital and emergency surgery was once again necessary. This time, they found and removed 4 fibroids from her uterus and removed endometriosis that had spread all over. She spent the next 8 weeks recovering from surgery. Then began a long year of doctors visits, medicine and being medically induced into menopause so that her body could heal.  Her diet completely changed to reduce the rate of endometriosis regrowth. After healing, her doctor sent them both to a fertility doctor.

In April 2019, they met with their fertility doctor for the first time and began the testing process to see where they stood. They immediately began treatment to try and become pregnant. The longer Cali isn’t pregnant, the harder it will become because of the endometriosis.  They have had 3 failed attempts at intra-uterine insemination. Insurance doesn’t cover any of their infertility visits so everything has been out of pocket.

After realizing intra-uterine insemination would not work for them, their last hope to have children on their own is in-vitro fertilization. This process has lots of shots (Cali has a huge fear of shots) and 2.5 hour trips to the doctors office in LA.  Up next is the egg retrieval procedure, the transfer procedure and the huge financial cost.  And remember, insurance doesn’t cover anything.

We have started this fundraising effort because so many people have been asking "how can we help?" This is a very practical way we can help take a little bit of stress off them during this process. Even if you are unable to give, please pray for them!  They both know and believe in the power of prayer.  And please share their story with the people in your life because you never know who else would like to help.

Thank you for taking your time to learn a little bit about Josh and Cali. Having a child will mean the world to them.  Their life is about the journey, not just the destination.

Financial breakdown for the egg retrieval and embryo transfer procedures:

•Medication for egg retrieval $3,428.78
•Anesthesia $595.00
•Egg retrieval $6,300.00
•Fertilization (ICSI) $1,950.00
•Genetic screening testing up to 8 embryos $6,000.00
•Embryo Transfer procedure $3,450.00
•Medication for embryo transfer (not yet known)

That’s a grand total of $21,723.78 plus the cost of medication for the embryo transfer.

Any little bit we can raise for them will help and be very much appreciated.
