Maker's Space at Alliance Academy!

Donation protected
Alliance Academy of Integrated Learning is a 6-8 public middle school in Deep East Oakland.  Our learners identify as Latino, African-American, Tongan, Samoan, Asian, Arab and African.  Alliance, like other urban public schools, has often suffered from high teacher and student transition, lack of public funds/resources, and the instability that comes through displacement by charter schools opening and closing in the neighborhood.  However, Alliance also has so many strengths! We have dedicated teachers, families, and community members who give their hearts and souls to the school community.  Alliance also offers a blossoming Newcomer program for our recently immigrated and English-language learners, as well as speciallized services and instruction for students with a range of disabilities.

Alliance is in the process of deep cultural and spiritual transformation, not only in the structure of our schools but in our learning philosophies and pedagogies.

The money provided will continue to build upon that changes that are already in place.

$10,000 will provide:

-A year stipend for local artists + educators to facilitate after-school Maker's classes
-Supplies to stock 3 Maker's carts that were built by the students last year (see video)
-Supplies that include: water color paints, paint brushes, tool sets (pliers, hammers, drills, nails/nuts/bolts), wood, cardboard, hot glue guns, markers of various types, STEM supplies (makey-makey's for computer-science, magnets, copper tape, LED lights, batteries)
-Supplies for art-based projects in the classroom
-A stipend for after-school teacher support and training

Our Royal Vision is that all Alliance scholars will be college and career bound visionaries, empowered through the arts and technology to conquer inequities, advocate for themselves, and become a voice in this ever changing world.

Our Royal Mission is that Alliance will provide an unrivalled education embedded with social justice, arts, and technology, to empower students to become changemakers in their community and the world.

And lastly, we always strive to ask ourselves: how can we develop a revolutionary mindset that ignites academic success and social responsibility, empowering students to carve out their own unique place in this world?

Thank you so much for anything you are able to donate - and don't forget that if you have old computers, supplies, books...you can always donate them to your local public schools!
