LONG STORY SHORT: Hagrid is in a lot of pain from glaucoma and the only treatment is to have his left eye removed. He'll still be able to see just as well, just without the migraines and eye pain. And when it's all over I might get him a sword, or some rum.

Many of you have the incredible pleasure of already loving Hagrid, an old man who's always loved getting into fun adventures and probably your pizza.
Hagrid came to me in the middle of the night 14 years ago, fresh out of an abusive home and in need of some TLC. Being malnourished and the runt of the litter, he was a little black ball of fuzz with big sad eyes. Fast-forward 8 years and he's my best friend in college, tearing up the neighborhood and making friends everywhere. And Hagrid still loves to go on adventures! This old man can still do (up to) 4 mile hikes in the mountains of Colorado, even though he can only see with one eye. He doesn't show any signs of slowing down soon.
But now he has advanced glaucoma--this causes great pain, migraines, and now complete blindness in his left eye. He won't tell you this, but he is in a great deal of pain, and has constant migraines. A normal eye-pressure in dogs and humans is about 10 units--Hagrid's is sitting at 80 right now, and rising. His eye is only serving to cause him greater and greater pain in his otherwise lovely life. It sucks it has to happen, but there is a bright side to all this:
Hagrid already has everything he needs to be a pirate--access to open waters, a love of pillaging other people's homes, a good peg-leg-like limp, and the big black beard. All he needs is an eye-patch! Won't you help us make him a full-pirate?
