Make a miracle for Mejia
Donation protected
36 year old Mejia is a husband and father of 6 children. He was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome, a syndrome resulting in the bone marrow to fail to produce cells correctly, in 2013. Since that time, he has completed numerous cycles of chemotherapy, however has continued to have pancytopenia (low blood counts), which have resulted in complications including bleeding in the brain, bleeding in the GI tract, bacterial infections in the blood, and chronic debilitating infections. He has required multiple hospitalizations, with the most recent from 10/25/18-11/23/18. Now, he is admitted to the hospital again with complications and persistently low blood cell counts. He has required repeat surgery for chronic infections, and is on IV antibiotics for resistant bacteria in the blood. He requires infusions of blood products almost every day.
Repeat bone marrow biopsy has shown no response to chemotherapy, and he is not a candidate for bone marrow transplant. He is out of options. His health care team predicts he has weeks to months left to live.
Throughout this whole fight, Valentin has always been upbeat. He is unassuming and thankful, and does not ask for anything. During discussions during this admission regarding his prognosis, he finally opened up to discuss his fears. He discussed his fears about what would happen to his family after his passing. And his fears about not being able to support his family financially, who were currently struggling to keep the electricity turned on in their home, where he and his wife and his 6 children and father-in-law reside.
Valentin's children are ages 3, 8, 10, 14, 15, and 17, and those old enough to understand are being told their father will likely not be around for another Christmas. With Valentin's permission, we'd like to help make this Christmas special for he and his family. Donations will go toward gifts for the children, food for the family, costs associated with continued infusions, and other medical expenses.
