A Maine Community Wood-fired Oven
Thank you for considering our Community Wood-fired Oven project. We are excited to have you be a part of our support and hope to meet each of you at one of our Bean Hole-Bean suppers or other programs and thank you personally
Howdy, My name is Maynard Stanley Jr. and My wife and I are on the board of directors at The Camden- Rockport Historical Society (CRHS). It is located near the town line of Rockport and Camden, Maine. The hard working board of directors maintains the Conway Homestead and grounds, which include the Conway House and Barn, Maple Sugar House, Blacksmith Shop, Caretaker’s Cottage, and the Cramer Museum. Several years ago, in order to raise funds to help cover operating cost, we started having Bean-hole bean suppers on the 2nd Sat. each month, March, June, July, August, Sept and Harvest dinner in October. ( Hope to see you)
The board has voted in favor of having a community oven as soon as we can raise the money. We do not have any paid employes. All money raised will go to building the oven. This wood fired oven will serve 3 purposes: #1 The community will have assess as needed to gather and bake. #2 It will be a training site for the Historical Society to teach primitive baking skills. #3 The CRHS will be able to bake bread and rolls to enhance our bean-hole bean suppers and additional fund raising with Pizza Parties to bring in a younger group.
Wood fired ovens have been bringing people together for centuries and even in modern times this has not seemed to change. My Goal for completion is August 29, 2016.
The Camden- Rockport Historical Society (CRHS) is a small but important 501C3 non profit complex in Knox County Maine. The Conway Homestead is one of the earliest houses in the region, built about 1770,
