On June 3, 2017, Michael and Annette Maguire of Bowling Green, Ohio were married. Now, here it is five months later and BOTH, unbelievably, have been diagnosed with Cancer.
Parents of seven amazing children, this couple’s heart-breaking journey began back in August, when Michael was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. After close to nine hours on the operating table and thirteen days in the hospital, Michael came home to a new reality. Unfortunately, he also found himself as one of only 20% of patients who suffer from two serious complications, the inability to sleep and the inability to keep any food down. This exhausting combination not only left him weak, but approximately 30 pounds lighter in a period spanning only three weeks. Every day is a battle, but as they both will tell you… they have each other.
Focused on bringing Michael home and wondering what their new version of a “normal” life would be, Annette was forced to deal with her own health concerns. Initially she attributed them to stress and the new circumstances that she was forced to live with, but after a simple trip to the doctor she too had had been delivered devastated news – Cancer, however in her case, it was Monoclonal B Cell Lymphoma. Today Annette anxiously awaits a bone marrow biopsy to address the doctor’s concerns that the disease may have spread, but as of today – we don’t know.
What we do know is that both Michael and Annette will begin Chemotherapy later on this month, their incomes are being greatly affected and an insurmountable stack of medical bills, as you could imagine, is piling up at their door.
